Primary hard disk drive 1 not found

I'm getting this message every time I boot a computer:

Primary hard disk drive 1 not found

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to enter setup..

I've tried everything, jumper settings and BIOS settings. I can still continue by pressing the F1 key.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

    BTW, it's a Dell OptiPlex GX1

I had this exact same problem with a GX1 in Donegal Co. Council - as far as I remember, what it was that it a second hard disk (HDD 1) was set in the BIOS, whereas there was only one disk in it (HDD 0).

I came across this on the dell forum:

If there's only one HDD, this will be drive 0; the eroor message means the bios is being told to look for a second drive and not finding it. You therefore need to turn the second drive from AUTO to NONE in the bios (or whatever the equivalent is on your BIOS); and you need to make sure that the sole drive, set to cable select, is on the connector on the cable furthest from the motherboard (or only connector if there's only one!).

    And it worked!!

Thanks for the advice Dun! ;)
