The only reason I can think of is the power supply needed to power the card may be different because of different continent power voltages?

Don't forget that the frequency is also different 60Hz instead of 50Hz..

The PSU converts the 110V/60Hz or 230V/50Hz mains to 12V/5V/3.3V DC for the motherboard and components.

so Motherboards should be the same.
on the subject of PSU I don't know if the card uses more power ..
and if it's a dud you can't return it

Yeah it will work, the card uses the same amount of power regardless.

I'm 100% sure. A 6800 should run you about $300 in the States.

I bought a Geforce 2mx400 in the USA. This is a long time ago now but the card worked fine here in ireland and it was alot cheaper 2.

There's a bit more to it than that. You'll have no support, no guarantee, none of the consumer protection that you get buying here - or anywhere in the EU, for that matter.

One more thing - it's possible, but unlikely, that your sister will be hit for Customs and VAT on her return.

www.newegg.com is one of the most popular american sites.

The cheapest 6800gt they have works out at about 340 euro.

www.jes-computer.de have one for 400 euro but they are not in stock.
