I trained a lot for this and I'm very happy to win this bronze medal. "If the spectator didn't jump in front of me in the middle of the race, who knows what would have happened? Maybe I would have won. It disturbed me a lot."

fair play to him for taking it so well, i would of been killed the fella if it was me.

claims hes irish? great way to shame the country. what a muppet.

Shameful is right ... he is Irish http://www.rte.ie/sport/2004/0829/horan.html?OLYSTORY!!

He should have his passport removed [just like the footie hooligans] ... he's a danger to himself others ... remember what he did at Silverstone last year!!

I cheered like mad for de Lima & it was great to see him enjoying himself as he came up to the line & the fact that the IOC awarded him the Pierre de Coubertin medal.

Wasn't this the same muppet who ran out onto the track at Silverstone a few years ago?

He really really deserves to be jailed, he's ruined de Lima's chances. The 10-15 seconds de Lima was held for really would have made a difference I think. I have nothing but sympathy for the poor fellow :(

Couldn't believe it when I saw it. This guy obviously needs help and shouldn't be allowed out in public.

Fair play to de Lima for his attitude and carrying on to win the bronze and to the IOC for awarding him the Pierre de Coubertin medal. But what were the police doing. What if this nutcase had even more malicous intentions. That runner could have been stabbed and killed.

What a f*cken muppet in fairness, I'd have to agree take his passport off him and send him back to Ireland

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭sci0x

Yeah its the same guy Sparks. But is he really that dumb? What did he want - publicity. What did he achieve - people all over the world discussing not only his sanity but the message he is spreading.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,254 ✭✭✭chewy

i just looked back and nobody mentioned his actually message, i don't think he gets it across... em its something about the second coming ,dont' sin but he needs to use a thicker pen to write that signs on his back:)

Fool. I feel distraught for that runner. Imagine, after so many years training, preparing for that moment and virtually seeing the finishing line ahead of you. He was in the lead - not by an incredible margin (40-ish seconds) but leading comfortably enough nonetheless.

Subsequently, this fool leaps in and decides to destroy the order of things. As much as I'd hate to be on the same island of him - I have to agree - remove his passport.

And whats worse is his message in Silverstone as far as I can remember was the world would end on July 6th, or some date thats gone anyway, and the world is still here.

Maybe jumping on the silverstone track was the only way to stop the destruction of the planet. Who know, maybe if he didn't do it, a racingcar would have crashed and been launched into space crashing into the moon causing a chain reaction that would have destroyed the entire planet... or something :)

Poing being, wether or not the world is going to end, what difference does it make if you interfere with sporting events.
I also vote for having this idiots passport removed.. he's obviously sick and needs to spend a bit of time in a mental hospital.

    Well its a start
Ex-priest gets suspended term for marathon stunt
    # 11:52 Irish ex-priest Cornelius Horan has been given a 12-month suspended sentence today for disrupting the men's Olympic marathon in Athens yesterday. The former Catholic priest (57) appeared before a Greek judge this morning. He was sentenced and released from custody but his whereabouts are unknown. O'Connor to lead Irish Olympic homecoming

    from ireland.com
now all we need is his passport and we're all done :D
though tbh it should be a mental home he should be in not anything to do with jail.

    More on RTE http://www.rte.ie/news/2004/0830/horanc.html
Its also covered in the main news stream from http://www.rte.ie/news/2004/0829/9news/9news56.smil

It shows pictuires from Silverstone also.
    what a f*cken muppet!

Thing is, take away his passport and he can still go to the UK (silverstone, 2012 olympics, etc).
The man needs to be locked up, he's obviously a danger to himself and others (more from the Silverstone incident than this one).

" Well, he was just going down that dark secluded alley with two large south americans...."

A brazilian guy who works with me, quite upset, just came up to me and said "I have to talk to you about something serious". "Who is this guy, why did he do it?"
He asked me to clock the guy when I get back to Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

You know, if our gallant leaders had any cop-on, they'd already have apologised to de Lima for this whole debacle, and offered him something like the freedom of Dublin city or some equivalent civic honour...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,005 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

The Brazilian ambassador was on Liveline today. He accepted apologies from some callers, including one of the brothers. The ambassador does not blame Ireland and the athlete has also forgiven him.

I'd hope not, thats like me getting beaten up in the street but someone from the UK and then blaming the whole of the UK for it, abit stupid no? ;)
