whether they did or not RTÉ do a great job of these programmes

(not often great job and RTÉ are in the same sentence )

I'd have to agree, even if TG4 did one already I'd like to see what RTE's version would be like.
Anyway don't RTE own some (alot, all?) of TG4?
    so not like it matters?

If they did they would have RTÉ TG4 in big letter right across the screen? Wouldn't they???

    lol

And yes TG4 did a 1960's show before, but it was a look back on the 1960's like I Love 1962 or somethink like that.

Funnily enough, RTE released leaflets when R1 started broadcasting on LW252, and on the back, it showed all the RTE companies, and one of the companies was "RTE TG4" Pity my scanner doesn't work.

That is a programme that will be worth watching. All the Reeling in the Years programmes have been great. It is good that they are finally doing the 1960's.

    Just to clear this up

    From TG4:-

TG4 invests over €15m annually in original Irish programming from the independent production sector in Ireland

TG4 was established and operates under the statutory umbrella of RTÉ. TG4 receives a programme supply of 365 hours of programming annually from RTÉ, at no cost to TG4.

TG4 is a publisher/broadcaster. The station sources its programmes from independent production companies as well as from RTÉ, the national broadcaster for Ireland

You will also note that TG4 webaddress is www.tg4.ie and not www.rte.ie/tg4

I beleive that TG4 would like to become a more independent company.

TG4 have an aquistions team, for their america programming.

    Their HQ is in Galway.

Don't insult TG4 by saying they are RTE. (THANK YOU)

I'm just mentioning what was written in the RTÉ pamphlet. I didn't write it! Why I noticed it is because I've never seen TG4 branded like that before.

Was the 60s as depressing as the 80s?

It was just as bad as the 80s, but nobody knew it could be any better. So no, it wasn't as depressing.

Besides, The Beatles were still touring, how bad could it have been :)

Perhaps it would be better to say that they are inextricably linked. ;) RTÉ still have ultimate control over TG4, much to the dismay of TG4. You might also have noticed that not only do RTÉ provide programming for TG4, but TG4 also provide news reports for Nuacht and even the 6.01 and 9pm news (as béarla). Léargas appears on both RTÉ1 and TG4.

Things are looking up though as there are reports in today's paper that Ahern is finally planning to give full independence to TG4, only 2 years after it was initially promised.
