Growing up I could never afford the latest new consoles (until a newer generation came out and you could buy a megedrive for 40 pounds etc.) and so never got to play all those classics to be. name your fave games and what platform they appeared on and a description...

    C64

    1) Creatures 2 (cute teddy like creatures being killed with chainsaws, excelent blood effects, funnyest game ever, cheat was to lick your finget and run it off joystick port 1 during the title screen, how'd they figure that one out??? don't want to know)
    2) Mayhem in monsterland (sonic for the C64)
    3) Rick Dangerous 1/2 (indina jones type platformer)
    4) Super Cars (like micro machines)

Atari 800XL: Dropzone, Star Raiders II, Montezuma's Revenge, Great American Cross Country Road Race, Ballblazer (all of which I play now on my PDA)

MegaCD: Any of the games with FMV. I remember being amazed at Sherlock Holmes way back in 1993! Don't get me started on Night Trap ;)

Atari ST: What was that 3D game where you had a ship, two landing craft/hovercraft thingys and two aircraft? You had to capture Islands from the baddies. You could switch between each craft at will and had to co-ordinate an invasion. Brilliant. And Lemmings.

Sinclair Spectrum - Jet Set Willy (what ever happened the 17 year old whiz kid who wrote all those games in Z80 assembly??)

Arcade - Bomb Jack, Missile Command + one that I don't remember the name of (Western/Bankrobber/quick draw type theme)

I was in Toronto recently staying in a hotel beside a place called "Dave and Busters". Great general entertainment place with a large arcade game area. Best part - they had an 80s corner!!! I relived my youth for hours on end. Its amazing how much you remember (fire 22 shots, then wait for the mothership, then 14 between subsequent mother ships - anybody???) Funny though, the crowds didn't gather behind like they used to when you were going for a record score :(

Curiosity got the better of me - the guy's name was Matthew Smith and he was a phenomenon in 83/84. 17 and writing the best selling games on the Sinclair Spectrum.

It would have to be the Sega Arcde classic SHINOBI. Many's the day I spent in Bob's Casion (Skerries) lobbying 10 pence pieces into it.

Surely you can play Goldeneye over the net with an emulator and kailerra installed? Anyways my list:

    Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition
    Street Fighter Alpha 3
    Sonic 1
    Sonic 2
    Sonic 3
    Sonic and Knuckles
Pacman (Original, not world or any of the other half assed pacman games)
    Toe Jam & Earl

hmmm ill have to look into that thanks..

Goldeneye had a two player mode if i remember correctly, playing against eachother either two or four people. Kailerra is a client for emulators that virtually plugs an online person into port two of a game, and, providing you have a decent broadband connection, you wont much if at all any slowdown. Ohh and if you still have the original game downloading an image of it from the net is legal.

Super Metroid (2nd best Metroid game, I just love Prime too much)
    Super Mario Kart
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    Super Mario World

    I'm very predictable.

How has noone mentioned James Pond on the Amiga yet?!

NES: SMB1 and 3, Mega Man 2, Zelda, Rad Gravity

SNES: Street Fighter 2 (original, none of this Turbo nonsense), Jurassic Park, Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid, Axelay, Flashback.... too many to mention TBH.

MD: The 'Strike' series, Landstalker, Micro Machines

Speaking of which, anyone know if Jurassic Park works with any of the popular SNES emus? The rom I have won't run with Snes9x or ZSnes, is it a dodgy rom or does the game just not work emulated?

hehe I thought I was the only one who loved Skitchin' :D

MD - Mutant League Football - Anyone who has played this will know the joys of this game, best American football game ever.

SNES - Chrono Trigger - One of, if not the best RPG I've played.

MD - Bomberman 2 (I think) - Very simple but such a laugh with friends.

Wow so many classics, probably my all time favourite from any platform would have to have been Combat School on my old Amstrad CPC464, i broke more joysticks with that game than i care to remember ;) Sorry i ever got rid of that machine :(

trailing behind that then would be stuff like, bomb jack, oh mummy, target renegade and gauntlet again on the amstrad.

then on the SNES it's gotta be super mario kart and the original donkey kong country.

and finally onto my old gameboy.... gotta go with Zelda :) that and Super RC Pro AM.

still have my GB and Snes but i regret ever getting rid of my amstrad all those years ago, would love to be able to load up combat school and hurt my wrist and break some more joysticks ;)

I use to spend hours as a kid playing a game called "SNOW BROS", I use to play it a chipper in inchicore (Pat's), I loved it so much I got my-self a Super-Gun and I bought the jamma board... I sold the Super-Gun and the few games I got for it in the end.

The other games where Superman & Spiderman another two great classic games.

    You got it!!

    Seeing as you mentioned 1942....
one friday evening in '97 a friend sent me a link to the MAME website. I downloaded and started playing 1942 via keyboard - no joystick! After a horrendous weekend, bleary eyed at about 3am on Monday morning, I made it to the final screen! The problem was that since MAME use dthe original code from the ROMS, it carried all the original bugs, one of which was that *sometimes* the final bomber never arrived. THe result after a 40 hour weekend of battling with my keyboard was an unendign flight over open see with no opponent!! I have never played 1942 since then!!!!!!
