NB fan failure and replacement

I have an Abit IC7-MAX3 motherboard. Its funky northbridge fan just died a horrible death. Running the system without it doesnt bother me as my system is well ventilated and it has a massive heatsink on it.

I bought it from komplett.ie and it is still under warranty, but I dont want to RMA my entire board. Anyone know where i can get a replacement? either online or in dublin? American boards seem to suggest 5 dollars and the same for shipping.

get one of those instead tbh
afaik the mounting holes won't fit. but it should stay secure with thermal paste.
the nb cooler on abit mainboards are utter ****. mine's been making an annoying noise if i power on when the ambient temp is below a certain level, since day 1 :rolleyes:

i kind of want the stock cooler. though i will think about others. but i want something small. not a beast. and it has to fit without glue. i hate the idea of glue.

basically I am looking for the lazy solution.

Same as mine but stops in about 1min of it spinning up

My fan developed that whirring noise after a while .... I sent a email to Abit and they gave me an address to send a SAE (UK stamps) and they sent me a new fan/heatsink .... hardest part was getting the fricking stamps

No it won't unless you keep the pc horizontally and never move it ever again

Thermal glue will get you there, but there is no way back on that path...

I had the same problem on my AI7 and although the fecking noise always bothered me, I didn't solve the problem until the horrible fan started making unpleasant noises. The AI7 doesn't have NB holes either, but I just bent 2 large paperclips to fit the NB47J. Best thing I ever did to a pc and total cost of the project was €3.99 :cool:

Why dont you fart in to your case to bring up the ambient temp before powering on so you won't have that problem.

Just run it with the NB fan disconnected Probably won't make a difference unless you're overclocking it. I've run several motherboards with no NB fan/HS after the original one died without trouble.

Get a Zalman NB47-J and mod it to fit the clips, no need for epoxy:

I started sending an email to technical@abitcomputer.co.uk .... but some guy there responded to any queries afterwards ... had to get a relation in the UK to send me 3 stamps, cant remember if they were first class or second class... :eek:
