Where's netsoc gone the past couple of weeks, not a dickybird out of netsoc.itcarlow.ie, SeanOS abandoned us. The world is deprived of my underconstruction site featuring a picture of bosco!

i think he mentioned something about hardware problems (i.e. the machine the college gave netsoc is crap :)) before it went down.

I didn't post anything regarding netsoc here [boards], as they are seperate. As Stephen says, I posted quite regularly on our home page before the downtime - we had major server problems, and, as you said, we have been down for quite a while now.

I'm going to be back in carlow on Monday, So I'll be rebuilding netsoc from tuesday onwards.
We now have 2 [maybe 3] servers, Canada life gave me an old Sun machine, which I'm donating, and I may donate one of my older machiens also. I'll only be using our college given server for the moment, as I have never used Sun before, and want some experience in it before I dedicate it to some of our services.
Hopefully, I'll have basics back up by Monday evening/Tuesday morning.
Web/SSH will be the first back, so keep eye out for site.

We'll be up/ready by Clubs & Socs day ... and hopefully have majority of services running & ready by then.

All previous information/user logins will be kept, however disabled till you re-register on clubs&socs day.

More information when site back up.

So now your trying to bleed our wallets dry as well?

To join any society costs EUR 2, I believe ?
So it shall be the same for netsoc, for basic membership at least.

I shall however be offering 2 'types' of account, basic, which will cost the same as any other society, and a 'gold' account, or something to that effect - which will offer more [such as mysql db's + extra disk quota and so forth] services.

As previously said, this is not the place for this conversation, or questions, our site will be up early next week, questions can be addressed there, or to my email address ; seanos@o2.ie or You will see me in the LRC all next week, and the week after.
I'll be around college from midday, till closing probably, feel free to ask questions, or give suggestions.

Regards, and please, keep more queries for our site, in person, or email.

    *edit*
My heart bleeds for your wallets, a whole yearly payment of 2 euro, or ?5? if you wish a 'gold' account. Over the summer, I have spent over EUR 700 on Netsoc items [hardware, tshirts, and some free things you will receive when you become members].

When's the day, and will last years college ID be accepted?

You don't have to charge 2yoyos if you don't want to. If all the other socs jumped into a river would you? :)

I thought you did, doesnt that 2euro go to the college and not to the group? 5 Euro is not alot though in all honesty people. I'd be happy to pay 5 euro a year for a shell account.

You'd be happier to spend the 5 euros on drugs ;)

Just to let you know, We're back...

Shell accounts will be setup on day of clubs & socs, so once you signup, can have your shell - and I'll restore your home directory.

Signup will be €2 & €5 euro, depending on services you want, I'd hope most people opt for latter, as it'll mean more services in the future, and better hardware.

Not to detract from ye're marvelous bitching at each other, but what IS the story with netsoc?

Cant ssh to the box and the web server seems to be down too. Anyone got any ideas?

More than likely sean or paul playing with sometihng, and breaking it.....But it's a bank holiday, so there aren't any of the admins in the college, so maybe they shut down certain machines in the server rooms or something....I should know, but i don't have the slightest clue.

Anyway, it'll be fine tomorrow at some point i'm sure.

As dogboy said -- playing with stuff till early hours, trying to get mail up and running - and made 'boo boo' - and I shall leave it at that - back tomorrow ... it won't be an ongoing issue.
