the pcs that the likes of tesco sell are geared towards families with young kids in school.

Even Dell aren't competitive once you look outside of the Republic. There are lots of UK and continent based retailers that offer high spec pcs and notebooks at knockdown prices. Buy a well known brand and you can normally choose a standard keyboard and english o.s. As long as you're confident that you can fix most problems yourself, theres no reason to buy Irish (you don't want to have to pay for returns, when the only problem is a dud driver). I'm not proud of saying don't buy Irish, but the savings are huge - mainly because of population size, but also because of tax rates eg. Germany 16%.

I'm nearly sure the monitor is a 17in CRT which if it is, makes it way more expensive then the offer Dunnes are doing as they have a 17in TFT Monitor
    but without the "workstation".
The Tesco "workstation" is just a basic cheap looking computer table.
