How many GAA clubs in your county.

    Heres a piece from John Knox in current Kilkenny People re the amount of GAA clubs in Kilkenny (just 41) & its impact on All Ireland final ticket allocation.
    Has anyone got information from the other counties.

    KILKENNY will be pushed to the limit to earn equality in the stands and on the terraces at the All-Ireland hurling finals in Croke Park on September 12.
    In fact, because of the overwhelming odds the county can already concede defeat to Cork, in the battle of the terraces at least.
    Small club and population bases will tell against the Noresiders, who can expect another off the field hammering.
    For last year’s senior final against Cork, the reckoning was that Kilkenny fans were out-numbered 2-1 at least by the opposition.
    When the ‘Rebel, Rebel’ call zipped round the 80,000 capacity stadium during crucial times in the match, it appeared as if the Leesiders had taken over the venue.
    Easily sorted
    The ‘where do the tickets go’ argument in this case is easily sorted.
    With All-Ireland final ticket allocations linked to clubs registered with Croke Park by various counties, Cork hold a huge, huge advantage over Kilkenny.
    A whopping 259 Cork clubs are registered, which in turn would swell the county’s share of the All-Ireland final ticket cake, so to speak.
    By comparison, Kilkenny has a mere 41 officially registered clubs.
    Cork would have a lot of hurling and football clubs registered separately. As each unit would be entitled to some passes, the Leesiders would command one of the biggest slices of the ticket cake.
    Disappearance
    The practice in Kilkenny in recent times has been to register hurling and football clubs as one.
    Hence we have seen the disappearance from the GAA landscape of football teams like The Village, who now field under the club name of James Stephens, and Sarsfields, who have also taken on the club name, in this case Conahy Shamrocks.
    Muckalee are one of the few football teams with a hurling brother. The hurling team in the parish is, of course, St Martin’s.
    Football only outfits like Railyard and Kilmoganny are included in Kilkenny’s 41 registered clubs.
    One of the reasons why Kilkenny clubs opted out of registering separate hurling and football clubs was because of costs.
    With insurance costs currently running at around e6,000 per year on average, clubs were able to make savings by registering all teams under the one name. Registering different clubs incurred additional insurance costs.
    No one could blame clubs for adopting that approach. But when it came to All-Ireland final time, that prudence had a sting in the tail for the Cats.
    The populations
    In terms of population, Kilkenny just couldn’t compete against Cork, the biggest county in Ireland.
    The last census gave Cork City a population of 195,400, which was second behind Dublin.
    Compare that to Kilkenny City, which ranks 11th in the country with a much smaller population of 20,300.
    The overall population of Cork county would be pushing towards 500,000, while Kilkenny’s barely breaks the 80,000 mark.
    Kilkenny’s initial batch of All-Ireland final tickets will be in the region of 9,000.
    The fact that the minor hurlers have also qualified for the final will help things a lot, and that should boost the size of the first batch by about 2,000 tickets.
    An average All-Ireland final size crowd from Kilkenny with the county involved would be in the region of 17/18,000.
    One of biggest
    With the county chasing an historic three in-a-row in the senior and minor games, Kilkenny will have one of the biggest crowds ever at Croke Park for this year’s All-Ireland finals.
    “We will do our utmost to get as many tickets as possible,” promised Kilkenny County Board chairman, Ned Quinn.

    Both counties in the final get the same amount tickets plus the extra if your minors are involved.I am a member of a senior hurling club in Cork and am the clubs rep. at the county board , we will get 70 tickets for the game ,after the officers and club sponsor are looked after we will have 50 tickets for the rest of the club, up to today we have applications for 106 tickets. The reason we seem to have loads of tickets is people search the rest of the country for tickets ie swop for football tickets beg people in non hurling counties etc etc so if you have any spare tickets could do with a hand out. May the best team win.

    This is totally incorrect information Dunbar. The information below explain how All Ireland tickets are allocated. I'm sure if you speak to Frank Murphy down there he will confirm this information.

    The amount of clubs in each county & allocation of All Ireland tickets can be found from these links.
    Some interesting other statistics in there to by the way .

    Looking at the list it shows that Cork and Kilkenny get 24000 between them the rest of the 30 counties get 24000 between them and according to your figures kilkenny get 11000 tickets .Having checked with Frank Murphy Cork got a 11000 and expect to get 2000 odd more which Kilkenny will get as well ,he also pointed out that the finalists get exactly the same amount each and because Kilkenny are involved in the minors they get an extra allocation

    This is where cork get extra allocation & we fall down. Regardless of who is in the final all counties get share from this pool based on number of clubs in county. Cork have more clubs than 5 or 6 different counties together.
    I've spoken to county board about this lots of times in Kilkenny. We are in finals often enough to know at this stage.
    Read the John knox article at top also. John is a reputable journalist.

    if that is correct then the break down is;
    out of the 24000 ;
    Kilkenny get 11000 +2000 for the minors =13000.
    Cork get 11000

    out of the 24000 couny allocation ;

    Kilkenny get 320 +13000 = 13320 in total.

    Cork get 2072 =11000 =13072 IN TOTAL.
    So you can see that both counties get about the same amount of tickets .
    Kilkennys 13320 tickets =17.5% of the pop.of Kilkenny.
    Corks 13072 =2.8% of the pop. of Cork.
    As you can it is very hard to get a ticket in Cork .futher to information i gave you in the first e-mail , my club got only 48 tickets 20 stand 28 hill 16 this is to a club that has 4 adult teams 2 minor teams 2 under 21 teams 6 under age teams and a comoige team and thats for the whole club even though we reg. our hurling and football sections seperately.

    Well aware of that debar.

    That is the best way to go - email/ring every hurling club in Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, longford, Cavan and Leitrim looking for tickets and you might come across a few
