Cool, thats a wierd thing about macs.

Try the alt key with other buttons too:

Yeah it is a bit weird, but i guess once you know about it it ain't so bad.

Well even after changing the settings its still sluggish so to speak. I can use the trackpad faster and i am hopeless with the track pad. So i need to get a better mouse.

Ah right. If you need there is a program that (among other things) speeds up the mouse speed. It's called "Mox Optimise".

Will give that program a go before bringing back this mouse. Any idea on how to open up a console window?

    Applications - utilities - console

Best of Luck with your new purchase.

You won't go to far wrong with the iBook, battery life is pretty good too.

    On the subject of browsers!

    http://browsehappy.com/

There's a great quote there about the "blue E!" - why not just delete the shortcut?

"Ms. Sandlin is so devoted to [Firefox] that she has taped a note to her monitor warning guests not to click on the desktop shortcut to Internet Explorer. Do not touch the blue ‘E!’ the note says."

    Only in Americia.

So far the ibook has been fantastic. Its a lot faster than i expected. I am still getting use to things, but i am making some head way. I have to say i love this notebook and i haven't even tried out all the cool stuff yet.

drifting off topic but has anyone tried omniweb 5? it seems pretty sweet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,524 ✭✭✭✭Gordon

The earlier omniwebs really sucked for me when I had them but now thanks to Peteers link I'm using Firefox as opposed to iCab. I have to say it works great, it gives me all of the IE fandanglys but with speed of iCab.

Thank god, I'm finally happy with my browser, it's only taken 4 years.

Its proper name is the NUMBER SIGN #, and US keyboards have it engraved on the 3 key while UK/Irish keyboards have the POUND SIGN £ engraved there.

In the keyboard menu you can select the Keyboard Viewer to see what characters can be accessed with the alt/option and shift keys pressed. And if you go to System Preferences > International > Input Menu you can disable the UK keyboard and enable both of the Irish keyboards (the MacRoman character-set one and the Unicode Irish Extended keyboard. More information about those can be found at http://www.evertype.com/celtscript/ga-keys-x.html
