    Just wondering is there any way of sending messages around a windows 2000 pro network like the way you can use netsend in windows nt?

    emmm, exactly the same way? Open up a command prompt, type net send <username> <message>.

    It can be done, but AFAIK it can be disabled. Sometimes it just stops working in TCD, for instance. Or it only works between computers in the same room. And sometimes it works network wide.

    Hah yeah don't I just know it.. Can't wait, it's not long til those naive lookin 1st yrs come in again and I get to do a netsend to them. I pretend to be an administrator and just give 'em loads about porn or somethin.. Great fun!

    You can use net send to send a message to a particular machine, a domain or individual users no matter what machine they're loggedin at.

    This is a ll dependent on the messenger service being enabled on the client machines. In XP SP2, this service is disabled by default. This will be the default behaviour going forward.

    You're assuming a properly structured and fully functioning network there Colm...

    And I wouldn't be too worried about TCD rollnig out SP2 - they're still trying to get vanilla WinXP working properly :rolleyes:

    how do you enable it again? its disabled on my network in windows 20000

    net start messenger

    or run services.msc and enable it there

    ColmOT i did what you said and its enable in the services and when i go into a command promt and type netsend i get this message
    'netsend' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

    if your PC is connected to the internet without a firewall or anything in front of it, be prepared for lots of irritating ads sent your way through the messenger service.
