    Hi,
I was on komplett.ie recently, and I noticed a "new" Intel socket number. Now, I've heard that Intel are no longer producing any of the chips under the 3Ghz mark, but I was wondering what is the difference between the 478 socket and the 775 socket? Both are Intel, and both have the new 3Ghz P4's. (Although the 775 only has P4's)

Is there an advantage with either? And does one use up more power / hotter than the other? I ask as I'll be building a new PC soon, and I thought someone here may know.

    Thanks

The Sokcet 775 Pentium 4's are for the new Intel 915 and 925 chipset motherboards (and other non-Intel ones soon to come), which feature all the new stuff like DDR2 RAM (instead of DDR), PCI-Express (instead of AGP and normal PCI), and other fancy stuff. Of course, they are more expensive and aren't without their problems - there have already been recalls on early 915 and 925 chipsets...
