I just got this of Chanel 4:
"Is it all over for black and white photography? Film sales have fallen through the floor and one of the great names of monochrome film and paper - Ilford - has gone into administration. "

I'd say buy as much FP4 as you can - you'll miss it when it's gone...

did i hear that kodak or someone were going stop making manual cameras...

i mean i know eveyone buys digital these days but surey its more a case of these companies not having the demand of 100,000 of cameras and now only having to produce a couple of thousands each year to supply those who used film etc...

i don't know why they shoudl stop producing the stuff entirely (why not just at on a smaller scale)

is this just a case of compamies not changing with the times quick enough?

ps has anyone tried those new automatic flash card to photo thingys?

d'oh. bad news indeed. I've just bought 6 of those b+w development envelopes from Ilford for about 8euro each. I doubt I'll be able to use them now.

just as a matter of interest where did you get those ilford envelopes? My mate who lives in the UK uses them all the time. I looked into buying them from 7day shop for here but didn't think you could send and receive them from ireland.

    thanks

because they don't make enough money from doing that. a few companies will keep on making film but many will stop. fuji and kodak will probably be the only two companies in 10 years time making film.

regards camera sales, film cameras just don't sell any more. if people want film cameras they buy disposable cameras.

The next 10 years will revolutionise the camera/film industry

i got them from 7dayshop. You can use them in Ireland - just stick a stamp over the freepost thingy and send it off to the UK address. It costs an extra £3 for overseas delivery, but it still usually works out about the same price or cheaper than getting them devloped and printed here. Or at least it did a few years ago - I'm not sure how much getting b+w developed and printed in Ireland now costs. I imagine the envelopes will be ok to use for a few more months, and possibly forever, depending on how the sale of Ilford goes.
