Id say yes, but there'd have to be a good lineup aswell. But after the gig on sat i think they could do it.

I'd say no, not because I dont like the frames, but because I love them.
Slane is a terrible, terrible venue. I'd say they could whip up a good crowd, at the right price, and with a good line up, but they should just hold a 2 day festival in Marley Park next year instead!!

How is slane a terrible venue flogen? A natural amphitheatre, surely this is good?

  • Lifted straight off the Frames Messageboard
So if you're a yes, continue the petition, I'd say 2,000 e-mails would sway their decision.

    Title: The Frames.... Slane 2005?!
Message: Here is the deal.... Full of enthuasism after the Marley Gig I came home and put a message here re: Slane 2005... Think its a massive idea!

Someone had the common sense to reply and say that we should get on to Lord Henry...

The best I could do was to get a contact email for him:

    enquiries@Slanecastle.ie

    or contact address
    Lord Henry Mount Charles
    Slane Castle
    Slane,
    Co. Meath.

Also would do no harm to cc any emails to the promotor that deals with the Slane Concert - MCD. Their email is:

    contact@mcd.ie

No. If Marley Park holds 12,000 and The Frames aren't able to sell out that (even with four other bands) then what makes you think they'll sell out 60,000?

They could act as support, but headlining? Nah. Play a few nights in Vicar Street instead.

No. Generally Slane is te place to host bands who are internationally successful and well known. The Frames are not. Perhaps as one of the support bands, but not the headline.

That I'd like to see :D

I'd love to see the Pixies at Slane but I'm not sure they have the following to fill it and they won't be chancing that after Madonna this year.

Maybe Radiohead will start touring again by then and the lineup could include all 3?

you say they cudnt sell out the 12,000 marlay park so how do you explain the 18,214 people that were there.the highest crowd for marlay park ever

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

Tbh it looks like they would be able to sell more than Madonna is....

I thought Marlay Park was sold out. Anyway I say No for Slane. Let them head away and tour the world with their new album, they are not big enough for Slane.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 420 ✭✭moshpit77

the "support" line-up for marlay park alone would have sold as many tickets as the frames did for that gig. I say "support" because internationally acclaimed acts like supergrass and idlewild must have been scratching their heads wondering who the hell they were playinfg support to

anybosy that thinks the frames could headline slane must be seriously demented. they are nothing short of a cabaret act. they add bits of other peoples songs to their own songs to make them sound good. they are another aslan or bagatelle, destined to play the pubs and clubs of ireland for all eternity

I agree with you. They could not headline Slane. But,

They are not a cabaret act. And who the **** cares if they do play pub / clubs in Ireland for the rest of eternity. People (alot it seems) enjoy their music, and they enjoy playing it. They make a living and people get entertainment out of it. Noone gets hurt. Why do people continually insist into beating them into the ground. If I didn't like a band I wouldn't waste my time slating them. I wouldn't listen to them and wouldn't buy their albums. Simple.

Personally I think its the success thing that people find annoying. You wouldn't be arsed slagging The Frames if you saw them years ago, but its just when they get even a slight bit of success people feel the need bitch about them.

Tbh, The Darkness are a caberet act. They are hugely popular internationally, headlined major festivals and have a huge selling album. Does that make them a good band? They are a piss take band, and they rely on stage tricks dramtics and being showmen rather than their music.

The Frames should not headline Slane. Why? Becuase I wouldn't like to see them there. I'd prefer if they played Whelans until they died.

The show didn't sell out, whatever the capacity. That doesn't prove that they can headline a venue with a capacity of 60,000.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Okie

Not sure if The Frames would have the fan base to sell out a venue as big as this, unless other bands on the line-up would entice ticket buyers.

To be honest, I'm still waiting for AC/DC (with Aerosmith in support) to play Slane.

Could be waiting a while though....

The Frames cannot play to massive crowds (main stage Witnness, Marley Park, Slane etc. Full stop.

I disagree. Marley Park was superb, and Witnnes was good. Slane would be terrible though.

    - thats the type of band that should be playing Slane! The whole Slane thing is getting dumbed down (the U2 gigs aside) the last few years. It used to represent a special occasion, the gig of the year. Check this article for the history of Slane lineups, it really shows just how lacklustre things have gotten;

Ok I'd love it, and they would sell out at the usual e60 - Slane *nearly* ALWAYS sells out and there'd be 4\5 other decent bands there too. Lets face it tho, they aren't international *yet* - I think them being second on the bill would be a great idea.

By the way I was told they sold out Marlay on the day, (not sure about this tho)

17,500 according to The Frames newsletter. I doubt they sold it out. There was huge field behind with a fence seperating it from the main bit. That fence could easily have been moved back to accomadate another 17,500 if they sold them...

BS, they have a cap, and it's not like they can add another 17,500 just like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,770 ✭✭✭Bottle_of_Smoke

Could of been moved back if it was sold out in advance, but the guy was texted by a brother on the day that it was sold out, he gets bullsh*tted to tho, maybe only just sold out ie wouldnt have sold another thousand space permitting

What do you mean by add? If they could sell the tickets, they would. They'd have a fairly good idea the day before the gig as to how many are going, and could alter the size accordingly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

Would it not have alot to with the lisence? I'm sure the lisence would restrict the amount of tickets they could sell.

yeah im sure the insurance would change so theyd need maybe at least a few days notice "adding" more space

    haha - bingo! :D

the frames headlining slane is just about the craziest idea i've heard in a long while.

i dont hate them too much though. and they do have a fair few irish fans, so i wouldnt have any problem with them supporting some better band at slane - which is quite likely i reckon.

ac/dc would be good headliners. even though it probably wont happen, radiohead would be awesome. REM too.

slane next year needs another big rock act to win back people who usually go, but won't this year due to madonna.

Their license doesn't allow it. And their insurance doesn't cover it.

Idlewild were rubish in Marley park and if the crowds were there to seem them then idlewild fans are very very relaxed bunch who show their support by sitting on the grass enjoying the sun and clapping occasionaly when the music stops. Supergrass may as well have been in a karaoke bar for the life they put in to it. Crowd enjoyed the old favorites but overall nobody seemd pushed. Bell X-1 got more attention and cheers then the rest of the support. As for the Frames, they were great and drew a huge mix of people who all seemd to have a great time. Maybe they wont play Slane in 05 but give them time...

yeah, the frames would be really great at slane. they really know how to get a crowd going and people who don't know their stuff too. proof-marlay park two weeks ago.

I love The Frames but suggesting that they should play Slane next year is madness.Give it another few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭Slutmonkey57b

Clearly the detractors are wrong. The Frames should definantly headline Slane. Smaller, less popular/professional outfits could support them. Perhaps the following lineup?

    Opening: Bowie
Lets face it, he's over the hill and who listens to old people anyway? 15 minutes at the start of the day before it gets too hot so he doesn't get too stressed should be fine.

    Second Up: Rolling Stones
Again, and "old man" group, but since there's a lot of them they might be able to stretch to a 30-minute set.

    Local Flavour: U2
There's always a "nobody" local act on the bill, so these lads should fit in fine.

    Warm-up act: Beastie Boys
They haven't been seen for years so they should be a bit rested. Shure haven't you got to have a few "beats" to keep the kids happy anyway. It's that or the Dubliners!

    Support: Justin Timberlake
Selling out a gig is beyond the likes of this fella, but the mammies love him, and he'll be a good intro for the Lads, eh? Good chatter on the auld mike.

    Main event: THE FRAMES
Playing all those massive hits like.... uhhh... ummm...., or the hilarious ballad eeeh... aaaah....., or their famous torch song... oooh, I think I almost know this one... uuuh...
All from their monster worldwide number one multi-platinum album
"Who the Fu.ck are these Frames assholes anyway?"

    Closedown show: Elvis
I'm sure he'll have a lot to learn from the supergroup that is.. The Frames!!
Great opportunity to spread the name "Elvis" to all those people who've never heard it before, courtesy of our generous friends... What's their name.... umm...

Yeah, it seems to have left me open to an attack of Frames fans lashing my karma out of it. Fortunantly there aren't enough of them for it to have an effect.

Apparantly "sarcasim is the wit of fools".

Someone should dig up Hicks and tell him he's not funny after all.
