PHYSICS MODELLING DETAILS AND SOME SETUP TIPS:
    __________________

    Toyota Eagle MkIII (1991)
    Weight: 840 kg (empty)
    Power: 785 hp @ 8,500 rpm
    Downforce: 3067 kg @ 321 kph (max)
Top Speed: 319 kph (198 mph)

Introduced halfway into the 1991 IMSA GTP season, this car represents Dan Gurney's first real championship challenger. The small 4 cyl 2.1L turbo engine allows a low mandatory weight, and allows for large underbody tunnels to be fitted. Even though this car is capable of generating significant levels of downforce, it is in early stage of development and reliability is still a question mark. It does have all the ingredients to be a future winner...

    + good handling
    + powerful engine
    + high downforce
    - early in development
    - reliability unknown
    - peaky engine performance

    Chevrolet Intrepid RM-1 (IMSA 1991)

    Weight: 840 kg (empty)
    Power: 800 hp @ 7,500rpm
    Downforce: 4390 kg @ 321 kph (max)
Top Speed: 291 kph (181 mph)

This distinct Bill Riley-designed car is a no-compromise high-downforce car, with a fairly standard 6.0L Chevrolet V8. This engine allows for a relatively low mandatory weight of 840kg, making this car a dangerous customer at the high-downforce tracks. Questions still remain about its performance on high speed tracks, as the top speed is severely limited due to the high drag, high downforce body.

    + Good handling
+ Lightweight for a GTP car
    + Very high downforce capabilities
+ high power, high torque V8 engine
    - very high drag

    Jaguar XJR-14 (IMSA 1992)

    Weight: 800 kg (empty)
    Power: 697 hp @ 11,500rpm
    Downforce: 4073 kg @ 321 kph (max)
    Top Speed: 321 kph (200mph)

Having left the SWC championship after the departure of long-time sponsor Silk Cut, TWR fields a modified XJR14 for the 1992 IMSA GTP championship. Having soundsly thrashed the opposition in the first races, IMSA issued a 50kg weight penalty, which left the XJR-14 trailing the mighty Toyota Eagle MkIIIs for the rest of the 1992 season. Capable of a higher maximum downforce level than its SWC counterpart, this maximum levels does come at a higher drag as well.

    + Superb handling
    + Very high downforce capabilities
    - high drag at downforce setup
    - weight penalty

    Toyota Eagle MkIII (1992)
    Weight: 830 kg (empty)
    Power: 825 hp @ 8,500 rpm
    Downforce: 4121 kg @ 321 kph (max)
Top Speed: 328 kph (204 mph)

When it was introduced halfway through the 1991 IMSA season, the Eagle MkIII took the field by storm. Now in 1992, the car is one of the main contenders for the title, equipped with a small 2.1L 4-cyl engine, allowing for a lower mandatory weight. Reliability over the long range is still a question mark, but the very high downforce levels this car is capable of generating make it a winner at any venue.

    + good handling
    + low weight
    + powerful engine
    + very high downforce
    - reliability over long distance
    - peaky engine performance

    Chevrolet Intrepid RM-1 (IMSA 1992)

    Weight: 862 kg (empty)
    Power: 800 hp @ 7,500rpm
    Downforce: 4401 kg @ 321 kph (max)
Top Speed: 292 kph (181 mph)

The no-compromise high downforce car is back in 1992 with a 6.5L Chevy V8, raising the mandatory minimum weight to 862 kg. This larger engine provides more torque, thus making the car even more potent at the low speed tracks. High speed tracks will remain problematic, due to the no-compromise high downforce nature of the car, severealy restricting top speeds.

    + Good handling
+ Lightweight for a GTP car
    + Very high downforce capabilities
+ high power, high torque V8 engine
    - very high drag

    Chevrolet GTP (IMSA 1993)

    Weight: 862 kg (empty)
    Power: 800 hp @ 7,500rpm
    Downforce: 4401 kg @ 321 kph (max)
Top Speed: 292 kph (181 mph)

Back for it's third year, the 1993 spec car sports the same 6.5L Chevy V8 as the 1992 spec car. The big difference is the fact that the car is now a privateer affair, after the withdrawal of factory support to the MTI team. Like the other 1993 spec IMSA GTPs, steel brakes are mandatory. The aerodynamics have been felt unchanged, still being an all-out high downforce car. Should be able to take on the privateer Momo Nissan and Joest 962s, but the Toyota Eagles remain far out of reach.

    + Good handling
+ Lightweight for a GTP car
    + Very high downforce capabilities
+ high power, high torque V8 engine
    - very high drag
    - steel brakes

    Toyota Eagle MkIII (1993)
    Weight: 910 kg (empty)
    Power: 753 hp @ 8,000 rpm
    Downforce: 4141 kg @ 321 kph (max)
Top Speed: 322 kph (200 mph)

The class of the 1992 IMSA GTP field is back for 1993, however slightly handicapped by IMSA. Like all other 1993 GTPs, the Eagle had to trade in its carbon brakes for steel ones. In addition to that, IMSA raised the minimum weight for this car to kg, together with smaller engine restrictors. The power output has dropped by 67 hp to 753 hp. Aerodynamics have been refined

    + good handling
    + powerful engine
    + very high downforce
    - reliability over long distance
    - peaky engine performance
    - steel brakes
