    Hi all,
If this is in the wrong forum feel free to move it.
Anyway, I had a lot of warts on my hands as a child and after several years they went. However a few have now cropped up on my arms and I'm desperate to get rid of them. Has anyone any solutions? I tried that stuff you paint on them but it didn't work.

    Cheers!

hi, go to your gp, hell probably give them a blast of liquid nitrogen, then ask for a referral to hume street a skin hospital where you should be able to get up to six further treatments at no additional cost. The liquid nitrogen stings for a bit but is a very effective treatment.

Had one once. Got the liquid nitregeon - worked fantastically!

On a similar note. I've a veruckia (spelt wrong I know) which I'm battleing with a cream at the moment, but I'd prefer a quick fix. Does the liq nit work for them as well anyone?

AFAIK it does, but I'd get a doctor to apply the stuff.

You can get some kind of acid treatment for them over the counter but be careful when using it, stings like a bastard if you get it on the wrong part of your foot!

It wasn't when I got it. But my VHI covered it. I just filled out a form in the Doc's surgery..
I've seen this stuff advertised on TV here recently.. never tried it though.

I had a good few worts on my hands when I was smaller and i got them taken off with liquid nitrogen, worked a treat. It stings for a second but thats all. Havn't had a wort since.

I've used the freeze treatment and the acidic solution. The solution worked best, I think. If you don't mind the possibility of a scar and the considerable pain (which I only found out about afterwards), you could try digging it out with something sharp. But that's dangerous and stupid. It only happened me when I was removing the dead layer of skin on my nose to apply a new coat of acidic stuff. Rest of the wart came with it. Big crater on the bridge of my nose, lots of blood. I'm lucky it didn't leave a mark...

Folk remedy, cut a potato in half, rub the cut surface off the warts, then bury the potato. Worth a shot, only costs one spud!

Don't dig around yourself, it will more often than not help to spread the warts even easier around your skin.

Go to the doctor and hopefully they will freeze them off (they may give you paint drugs again but maybe if you insist that they dont work the doc may just quickly zap them for you). I have no scarring from my warts and it wasn't unpleasant the experience, at all.

Although, they may pop off your skin sometime later at inopportune moments if you do get them frozen.

I use to have one on my finger just a few months back,
and i asked in a chemist and they gave me Salatac Gel - worked great..
Used to sting like crazy (probably because i'd chop off the top!!!)
Anyway it helped.. my wart was gone in a few weeks.

The acid you get in pharmacies are ok if you only have one or two and the warts are small otherwise go to your gp.

yeah Salatac Gel is good, but it can really zzzzSTTTTTTTIIIIINNNNGGGG if you apply it wrong, or if you peal too much skin off after an application

The Wartner stuff that was mentioned in an earlier post is, as far as I know, pretty much the same as what you get from a GP.
You get it in boots or any big chemist for about 18euro, I had a wart on my finger and you zap it (stings a bit) and it was gone in a week.
Works for verucas too, so might be cheaper that paying to visit GP.

This may sound weird, it's a bit of an "old wives" remedy, but believe me it works;) Peel a potatoe and cut the peel to about the size of the wart. Bandage the potatoe peel, inside facing down, on top of the wart and leave it for a few days. Within a week or so the wart will start falling off. I had awful problems with them after an accident with a molten lead spill, but it did the trick every time.

banana skin works as well as potatoe skin. Leave it until it is completely dry and shriveled up (cover with a band-aid, might need a replacement).

Okay I've been working part time in a chemist for 4 years so here is what I know.

Warts and veruca are the same virus, do not pick at them or they will spread.

    Two types of treatment

    Acid.

These are the paint on solutions and the gels like salactal they range for €6 to €10. You use them once or twice a day continously untill it gets right down to the root so the wart will not grow again. (this is the part people have difficulty with) A TIP: put vasaline around the wart so that when you apply the solution it will not touch the good skin as this will hurt.

    Wartner.

It is not exactly the same as what the doctor uses but is the next best thing it is based on the liquid nitrogen method.

You have 10 sponges and an applicator. you put a sponge on the applicator and you use canister of stuff to saturate the sponge. You hold the sponge over the wart for 20 seconds.

The wart should blister and heal in about 10 days, it the blister bursts cover it and keep it very clean. You can use the treatment on one wart up to 3 times and with 15 days in between. this treatment costs €18/€19.

Your only other option is the doctor.

If you ever get one on the face or head, do not treat it yourself.

    Shirls

Used all sorts of crap on my wart and still was'nt budging. Heard on the Gerry Ryan Show (had a slot on wart removing) about Dr Scholls wart remover. You get it in America. Got some shipped over and voila 10 days later gone... :D
