Sky Direct Debit Credit Card Problems

    Hi
I have sky almost a year now 10 months anyway, when I ordered I set up and paid with my AIB credit card and set up the direct debit this way.

Now for the first 8 months everything was fine, they took the money every month, then out of nowhere a red letter arrives from them saying that I have not paid and my CC bank declined the transaction of €52 even though my limit is in the €€€€€.

So at first I get onto the bank they say that there is no problem and Sky never even attempted to take the money.

I call Sky and they say they tried to take the money and where denied even though over the phone I gave them the number again and lo and behold it worked over the phone, so they double checked the numbers and said everything was ok, ( they also charge admin fees for not paying)

Anyway this month arrives and now I am getting a monthly statement from them asking for payment so I call and pay and am told that my cc details where removed from my account.

Sorry for being long winded but anyone else have these problems with Sky and have a resolution?

I've heard of this happening before, as your paying by credit card your billing would be done by an automated direct debit and the computer uses the details that were given to it at the time of setup but when when you receive a new credit card it has a new expirey date on it but this new date is not registered with sky thus the payment being refused(using an expired card)

When you rang sky directly I sure the sky person asked for all the relative details and the new expiry date and lo and behold the card worked.

With the new pin/chip technolgy being phased in over the next couple of months nearly every one will be getting new Visa cards.

So ring the sky monkeys and tell them to change your expiry date(if that of course is the problem )

    :)

happened to me also when my old card expired .. got a snotty letter to say payment was refused... even though they had taken 3 months in succession off the new card ... Looks like in my case they ignored the expiry date for a couple of months then their software kicked in.

Got the usual bill + admin charge etc. - rang and re-confirmed the details and asked that they removed the charge - they were not going to until I pointed out to them that they had taken the sub off the new card for 3 months .. all sorted in the end.

This will probably all happen again when the new chip and pin cards come in later in the year ... so beware !

I had the very same problem with Sky earlier this year. Got a letter saying that payment had been refused. Contacted my bank and the said that they had had loads of enquiries from people regarding refused sky payments. It was a problem with Skys system. Contacted Sky and the guy I was talking to said pretty much the same. He re-took my card details and had no more trouble.
