I just bought a fujifilm finepix f420. Its a sweet deal of a camera, but one thing has me confused. In the colour mode menu there's three options, standard chrome and b&w. What the hell is chrome? It doesn't appear to be very different from standard? Any clues?

Chrome increases the colours and tones which is mean't to be good for portrait shots, but your right, there isn't much difference between standard and chrome.

Ah. Cool. I'll put it back into standard mode then. Damn buying cameras in Asia and not being able to read the Thai instruction book!

no harm having a scout around the web for a pdf version of the instruction book in english. I've done it and know a couple of others that have found them online

Hmmm. Fujifilm.com dont seem to even acknowledge the existense of my model of camera. That makes sense. Better keep looking.

    You'll find it Here.

As an added bonus, it's in English. You were probably looking at the US Fuji site, which may have slightly different models.

BTW - Chrome: The contrast and colour saturation are set to high. This feature is effective for taking more vivd shots of subjects such as scenerey (blue sky and greenery) and flowers.
