iTunes Europe - Where's Ireland?

Will iTunes ever become available for Irish iPod users?

iTunes Europe launched in Britain, France and some other country but not here - what's that about?

Suddenly O2's Digital Music Player seems a whole lot more attractive.

Steve said that the October release of the Pan European iTMS is for the rest of the European Union. That is Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden + the new ones

Isn't it the case that very few online music stores support the iPod?

True, few online stores support iPod's formats (ie, AAC, MP3, CD). The only one I can think of offhand is emusic.com - which uses MP3. The selection is a bit weird, leans towards the indie scene. There are are one or two more but none with the same size catalogue as the biggies.

iTunes claims the biggest catalogue (1 million-plus tracks), though I think OD2 might have matched them lately. iTunes tracks have fewer restrictions on burning, etc, than the big rivals. You can, for example, burn them to CD, then reimport them as unprotected MP3 files.

Also, the interface for buying songs is a lot nicer than Napster, Sony Connect or OD2 (which trades as MSN Music, HMV Music, etc).

Digital downloads are convenient but I'd still rather own the CD and do what I want with the music I've paid for.

That may be true but what do you need the other music stores when the biggest, most popular and the one with the largest catalog supports the ipod ? If your looking for non mainstream music give the ITunes store a few months to catch up.
