What kind of connection is it?

If it's DSL, then it's using a PPPoe connection, whereby the computer initialises the "dial-up". To the computer it's indentical to a dial-up connection, so it automatically terminates the link when you log off. I'm not sure if it's possible to stop XP from disconnecting when you log off.

If it's cable, then it shouldn't really do that :) (Yes, no help I know)

    ARDEN try this article http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/learnmore/tips/theriot1.mspx

i used this before on my pc and it worked to great affect! it lets you keep your connection on while you switch user accounts and it won't disconnect when you switch user accounts either!!!

No this still doesnt seem to work, if I log off and into the Win login user screen, the connectio is still terminated.

Im on Esat IOL Broad Band, and yea I think its a PPoE one. In my connection properties though there is the one you click on to connect to the IOL BB, and then there is another saying, Local Area Network, and that seems to be also disconnecting when I log off.

One solution (probably not ideal for you though...) is to use a DSL router which maintains the connection independently of windows. Windows XP just sees an ethernet connection rather than a direct connection to the internet. This has the added benefit of using NAT (network address translation) - making it a pretty good firewall too.

    No, same thing..

The thing is if I am loged in, and I click switch user, its fine, it stays on for the next user, but if that person logs in and then logs off, the connection is droped.

Meaning if I had something dloading on my account, because the other user loges off, the connection drops. :/ Bit pointless really isnt it.
