    Hi all

I am not very technical minded, I'm having a problem in the last day or two, my brother set up Windows XP and Broadband internet on our computer but I can't get into chat rooms anymore, can anyone help me, I went into the sun java site to download it, so there is java on my computer, dunno what to do now. I keep getting an image such as the one attached

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

In internet explorer go tools->options->security->custom level and take a look at each of the options - it looks like you have one or some of the activex options disabled...

Do you have a firewall of some sort?

i know firewall screws with me getting into IRC so yeh that could be your problem with chat rooms, when i set up me home network windows kindly puts the firewall back on and i sit there for 2 hours screaming when irc refuses to connect

Can you please tell us what type of chat rooms you were using?

Was it via IE or another program?

Can you give us a URL or program you use as an example?

Johnny, could you give us a URL for these chat rooms, then we can determine exactly what's required to connect.

Also have you recently installed XP service pack 2? (That automatically turns on the XP firewall).

Yes, you can have both installed on your PC.

I tried that link and norton said that there was an attempted directory traversal attack from 127.0.0.1 (the local machine....some fuppin' firewall). The chat room may represent a security threat.

You can have as many web browsers installed on your computer as you want. Currently I have about 10 browsers installed on my computer. :) Firefox is very easy to use, if you can use IE then you should have no bother using Firefox. You can get Firefox from http://getfirefox.com.

You mentioned an error message about Java needed. Go to http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.4.1/demos/applets/Clock/example1.html If you have the Java plugin installed then you should see a clock at the top of the page. Try that to check if you actually have Java installed.
