hey just a quick question wondering if anyone knows anything about brazilian or french hip hop?
on a few mix tapes i have theres some great stuff on it but i wouldnt know where to start.
another quick question while im asking. on liam howletts the dirtchamber sessions theres a bit with the mugwump jism by bomb the bass. I was just wondering if anyone knows where that bassline comes from? ive checked the chemical bros and kruder and dorfmeister remixes and the original but none of them have that brilliant bassline. dunno if added it from something or if it was the version he used but anyone know what it is and where it came from?

For French hip-hop, Saian Supa Crew and IAM are good places to start.

check out the soundtrack to the french film La Haine,
It has a great selection of french groups, some great tunes.
unfortunately it hasnt got dj cut killers remix of sound of the police(krs 1 i think)
and edith pief's Je regrette rien that he done in the film. it ****ing owns.
aside from that I dunno, i've been meaning to check out french hip-hop

You can find it under the name Nique Le Police (le? la? dunno, my French is terrible). I don't think the version he released is the exact same as the one in La Haine (which is ****ing cool) but it's still pretty good.

How many soundtracks are there for La Haine?
I have two anyway, one is music inspired by the film the other is music in the film.
    Both are good though.

The soundtracks for Taxi and Taxi 2 are both good albums. The soundtrack for 2 is done solely by the group One Shot, worth checking out.

    Fonky Family are good too.
Mc Solaar is the best by far imo.
    Supreme NTM
    Saian Supa Crew

Really just repeating what's already been said.

    Nique La Police.
Which is an NTM song, and then there is as already said Krs-1,Edith Piaf and Busta Rhymes samples mixed in too.
    Great track.

there are two, the ones you have. I've been desparately searching for the cd with the music
from the film. I have the cd with music inspired by the film. Where did you get it?
Everywhere on the net i looked is soldout coz its being deleted.

I really need to check out taxi1+2 soundtrack. Loved the films and the music was
    fantastic.

Sniper also puts out some nice tracks. I prefer their older cd, though, "Du Rire Aux Larmes."

Best tracks on it: La France, La Rumba, Pris Pour Cible, Du Rire Aux Larmes, Fait Divers

Oh man, I love that bassline in Bug Powder Dust, and it only seems to be on the Bomb The Bass version alright. I checked here http://www.the-breaks.com/perl/search.pl?term=bug+powder+dust&type=7
but don't think either of them have the bass line. Could it be that its not sampled but made by them?

French rapping is great, it just flows so well, here's some I listen to:

    Alliance Ethnik, my favourite
    MC Solaar
    Fonky Family
    Akhenaton

Edit: Also check out DJ Food - Dark Lady, it has the same bassline, this may be where it originated.

    wow, i love both
My mother is from Brazil i used to live there, and the best hip-hop artists are Marcelo d2, Motiro, J.3, Dj Hum, can be very hard to find some songs Marcel D2 the most popular....
French hiphop, as someone said above, MC Solaar is a real Fav, and the soundtrack to la haoine is great
    enjoy

Lash Bakar-Classique into youtube, its basically a homage to all the big Rappers in France, Lunatic,Bakar,NTM,Sniper etc.

Sink is fairly decent although alot of French people think he's too commercial, more for kids! I live in France so have a pretty unlimited supply i can get my hands on, if anyone has problems finding certain groups or whatever!

For a classic Marseille hip hop album try Meteque et Mat by Akhenaton (one of the boys from IAM gone solo).
