okay , I made up one of these and before anyones says anything it does work, just dont believe them when they say its as good as a plasma screen or such.
the system is basically a cardboard box which you place in front of the telly with a special flat lens in the box to focus the picture , and the picture is projected onto the wall. The room needs to be totally dark to see the picture but it can be pretty good if you put a bit of work into the setup, Ill send you the plans if you want.
Dont pay the 10-20 euro that they ask though, I found out what the lenses are called and looked them up on ebay and picked up 3 of them for a fiver.

So in conclusion , its not the solution to spending 2000 euro on a real telly , but for the price of two pints I find it a nice novelty to use once or twice a week with a movie and chillin out

Knife fighter> Excellent! thanks for a well informed answer. I would be interested in the plans if you wouldnt mind! Is 150" realistic? I have a projector system so its just curiosity getting the better of me!

John R> Jeez man calm down! I labled my thread as a Query on a supposed bargain which I believe is within the rules and got an excellent reply from knife fighter and a free set a plans!!

    Have a good weekend ya'll!

Yeah Its a fresnel lense you can find em in old overhead projectors.

Paying money would be mad for the plans,

Do a search in google for diy video projector and you will find you can use the lenses for "more intresting" purposes

You will also need to adjust your TV's brightness and tint level to get your desired picture quality.

Picture quality on televisions is dependant on brightness and tint now?

JohnR is right, this isn't a bargain, it's a pile of cack.

To be fair, it does say that it will lose picture quality on the site.

ok so it loses picture quality but the big question is: is it still watchable?

knife fighter- How big was the image you created. Have you any of your lenses for sale?

Okay , here are the plans that I found http://www.gkennaugh.giointernet.co.uk/TV%20Projector%20Plans.htm.
You'll figure it all out after a quick read .Ill also try to get a pic of it working so you can decide on the quality for your self.

Now , this is the guy who I bought off
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5708089073

He was grand to deal with , but it took about 6-9 days between me sending the money order and getting the lenses, which is probably not too bad really.

I'm afraid I dont have lenses to spare , becuase I have a more refined setup using two lenses in mind for the future.

Also the image projected is upside down and back to front. you can use mirrors to correct this and that is detailed in that list of plans above. However I use my tv connected to the pc to display my divx movies. If you have an nvidia or radeon card there is an option to flip the picture in the display properties, so it looks normal when projected, but still back to front, so I can't watch subtitled movies just yet

Now you need to project onto a shiny surface, the gloss white backs of posters are excellent, I use an enormous map that comes to about 6' diagonal, and has metal bars top and bottom to flatten the paper , or ask around for an unused projector screen. I dont knoe about 150" but you could go a bit bigger than 6' anyway , the only big deal is getting a suitable screen to project to.
Also I noticed that a 14 inch tv is much better than a compter monitor, but if you were looking I'm sure you could pick up a 14" tv for very little money, the flatter the screen the better.

All in all,I still think its a decent project, but its not going to compete with a few thousand euro worth of projector. But my advice is dont listen a whit to the guys who are selling them as a miracle the the TV comanies are trying to hide!

Thanks for all the info. I thought it was a once off purchase on ebay but he is selling them always and has good reviews. I'll give the instructions a read but at that price I don't think I'll be pissed off if it turns out bad

    What purposes??
I heard of a FOAF who has a projector and lives near renalagh, he had a window which was close to an opposite white wall in an alley where guys used to piss when coming out of the boozer. One night he beamed porn onto the wall, the guys pissing would see it and call their mates, when the friends came running he would turn it off leaving the poor guy saying "I swear to god it was up there" and all the mates saying "yeah, yeah you stupid ****"

I've been messing around with a fresnel lens it got in a camping store. not only does project the image from a tv it also make certain parts of your body look huge when viewed in a mirror!

If you picked up a cheap 14'' tv you could easily make a cheap projector with this method for around 100 quid.

Camping/army supply stores sell plastic foldable fresnel lens for magnifying a map. they're about 6'' by 10''

I covered mine with carboard that had a 3 inch circular hole in it, lined up to the circular ridges in the fresnel lens. This produced very good results. Apparently a bigger hole works even better as it lets more light through.
