Can someone recommend a decent free software dvd player for the pc. Have oem powerdvd and windvd but neither of these do 5.1. So i suppose it would have to have more than just stereo capability!

    Thanks,

    P

Isn't it your sound card that handles the surround sound, like they handle Dolby, if you have a good soundcard, that should do the rest for you?, i dunno but i doubt you'll get free dvd software better than Powerdvd and windvd....they are the big names

Yeah that's waht i thought but powerdvd is limited to stereo only. So it won't play at all on the rear speakers while its powerdvd is being used unless i mix the channels which is a wee bit poo....I'd have to pay €30 to upgrade to a 5.1 version which is bull**** as far as i'm concerned!

You must have an old or limited version, find someone with it around. it does support Dolby Surround, mine does

Y'see that's one of the things I love about Linux, there are no demos, no shareware, no 30-day trials. Everything is free! (Well 99.9999% of it is) It's great. And I use MPlayer (available here), it's great.

With source code so any idiot can compile it for win32. I suppose you could say that it wouldn't be open source but for linux but either way you wouldn't have to join the penguin brigade to use it.
