    Hi folks,
I have a Power MAC 5500/225 with 32MB RAM and OS 8.1 and I'm trying to connect it to IOL BB. As far as I'm this OS doesn't support USB and I'll have to upgrade to at least 8.6 before I can add a USB card, is this correct? If so, is it possible?
My other option is connect via an ethernet. Can you get a PCI card to work with this version of OS? If so, can I intall a regular PCI NIC?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike.

USB would be a nightmare to setup id say.

get an old 3com network card, it should install itself easily enough. Then configure TCP\IP (I forget apple's name for it on OS 8.x)

Thanks, thought USB might be tough.
Tried putting in a 3com NIC but couldn't find if the MAC detected it correctly or not. Also under TCP/IP, the only connection options were PPP or AppleTalk i.e. no TCP/IP option.

The system profiler should allow you to see what cards have been installed, should come up as an ethernet card under PCI if its there

Thanks. Could you tell where I can System Profiler(OS 8.1)? Sorry I'm a bit green when it comes to MACs.

Ignore last post. Found Apple System Profiler but no sign of my PCI NIC, do I need to install drivers(3com 3c905B-Tx). Checked 3com site but none available to download for MAC.

Hrm, is anything showing up in the PCI slot? may simply be an incompatible network card.

Only think relating to this card and Macs on the interweb was someone looking for mac drivers so im guessing it may be a windoze only card
