Hey I have an audigy 2 ls 5.1 sound card. I also have a sony sound system that has 5 seperate audio outputs for front rear and centre.

Is there any way I can set 5.1 up with this system. I had it running in sterio but when I switched the connections and tried running in 5.1 I only got output from the front two speakers.

I set the soundcard to 5.1 as well btw.

The soundsystem itself is a rx100av with the rear speakers replaced with 2 technics ones.

Im using the onboard optical out for my sound. Its crystal clear.

I'm using the standard line out on the souncard.

The sound system itself isn't a 5.1 one. It's a Dolby pro logic one but it has 5 line outputs. I can't seem to get it working.

Is Dolby pro logic active on the sound system. My sound system I have to activate Pro logic. Dolby Digital is auto detected.

Yeah I have to activate it but even when I do the rear speakers don't work, only the front and centre.

Maybe it's an ohm issue. The front 3 are rated at 8ohms while the rear is rated 16ohms. I think 16ohms is less than 8ohms but all the speakers are rated 8ohms.

I have run 8ohm speakers on weaker systems in the past though and they ran fine.

You keep saying the Sony unit has 5 OUTPUTS....You can't plug the outputs from your soundcard to another output. Was it a typo and you meant input?

Edit: Also setting your card to 5.1 will have it redirecting audio to it's own analog outputs, not just the line out. Basically if your amp/receiver has 5/6 (incl sub) line inputs then you need to connect all of the indicated line outs on your sound card to these when it's in 5.1 mode. You might get pseudo surround by feeding a stereo signal to your prologic receiver and letting it decode to Prologic but it won't be accurate 3d audio.

It's alright I got it working.

By 5 outputs I meant it has 5 diffirent outputs for 5 different speaker.

It's not working in true 5.1 as when I run the 5.1 test I'm only getting the front two speakers. I am getting output from all 5 speakers now though.

Is there any way I can get true 5.1 sound working with this?

If ur gettin output on 5 speakers: What type of output do you get from the speakers now, like 2 x stereo and ones mono since that the centre speaker can't be stereo on its own.
well either (assuming you don't have a woofer):
    1. all mono
    2. 2x2 stereo and 1 mono
    3. or u have surround sound

It should not matter at all what type of speakers or sound system u connect as long as each speaker got its own channel. so this should work fine: Dolby pro logic one but it has 5 line outputs

Does the sound system have a digital din? Could use the digital output on the Audigy with the right cable

No it only has digital out i'm afraid. Bah.

Does the system have an optical or coaxial input?

Missed your post last time martin

Well I'm not getting 5.1 put I am getting some sort of 3d sound. It must be the pro-logic decoding the sterio input. I've been testing it on games, mainly cs-source and it works quite well. Most of my sound, footsteps, gunfire ect come from the centre speaker while other sounds from around me are coming from the left and right or centre if they are right in front of me.

I didn't bother setting up the other two speakers behind me as it's fine the way it is now. It's not 5.1 but it's decent enough 3d sound.
Does the system have an optical or coaxial input?

Nope it only has the standard red/white input.

Well red/white input is only a stereo input so your not going to get 5.1 out of that i'm afraid. I think you can get quadraphonic output through the re+white but the system has to be able to decode it and i'm not sure if the sound card can produce that kind out output signal.

Dolby Pro Logic produces 4.1 from a stereo signal the two rear speakers are outputting the same sound. To get Dolby Digital 5.1 firstly the sound system needs to have a 5.1 decoder, does it?

No like I said the sound system isn't 5.1. I thought the sound card would do the decoding but I don't see any way of transfering this output to the 5 speakers.

Guess i'll have to leave it then and settle for dolby pro logic for now.
