Whats the deal with these LIDL satelite receivers, what (english language) channels can you receive free? Has anyone had any experience setting them up? Are they worth getting?

Hmm, you can get BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, etc free on Astra 2. Check out www.digitalsat.co.uk for listings of free channels on each satellite. Astra2/Eurobird contains most of the English channels.

This is an excellent deal - no doubt after the success of the camping sat kit, but you need to remember that it's quite difficult to get someone to install it for you, if you're not to handy with the technical aspects yourself. And that costs a bit...

Would you be able to pick up live news and sports feeds, like the ones stations receive before rebroadcasting them with commentary with this dish & receiver?

For a €115 this seems a good deal. What do the 'knowledgeable' think?

Do you need a card or any other equipment to receive BBC's and other english channels?

No card is needed for the BBC channels. There are also some other English channels that are available free but most of the popular ones need a viewing card and therefore cannot be received by the LIDL system.

you do not need a card to receive the bbc channels (1,2,3,4 parliament, cebeebies, radio), however you will not get UTV and Channel 4 on this box without a card. Actually i don't even know if this set top box will take a decoder card.

If anyone know a link to a dopes guide to these systems I think it would go down well, i know i would read it anyway, is this also a digital radio receiver? does it just need a small aerial? will it be sim to the ones the BBC intend to give out for free?

Stoner: The receiver is a Free To Air box only. It does not have the ability to accept viewing cards. Even if it did, it wouldnt' work with Sky cards, as Sky cards only work in "Sky Digiboxes". The receiver does give radio reception too. Nearly all radio is free, including all BBC Radio, Virgin, ClassicFm, Century, Capital FM, RTE R1, 2fm, etc. all received from the dish. There is in the region of 100 radio channels.

MarinoMark: The TV seems to be a rebranded Beko. It's OK for the price.

Whoever mentioned live feeds, it'd be rather difficult. Depends on whether the feeds will be FTA and what bird they'll be transmitted from. Ronan|Raven may be able to help wiht that. Best to try www.boards.ie/icdg (satellite section) for more info on that.

this is a good deal only if you want to see the free to air channel it will not have any slot for card therefore not suitable for premium channel, you have to have a decoder box with slot to get them and then you can buy the cards to put them in,

    www.DigiCams-Uk.com
    www.Surfsat.com
surf these, there are better dealer and will give all info.

    regards
