Benchmarks for CS:Source are starting to appear all over the net.. Makes for some interesting reading and gives us all an idea of what HL2 will run like on our machines..

Out of intrest we also ran the game at the maximum AA/AF settings available to us, this means 6xAA-16xAF on the Radeon and 8xSAA-16xAF on the Geforce.

    Hmmmm............

Be interesting to see the 6800 U score compared to a X800Pro. But fuck! I was all lined up to get a GT and oc to U speeds (saving about 100/150 in the process).

That all the cry babies with ATI cards can cheer up now? :p

Im glad we are back to the days when there is no card thats a "one size fits all", now we can customise PCs to excel at certain tasks (while being pretty good at others). I like variety.

There is some serious dissing of those benchmarks over on the overclockers forum....the performance gap seems a little to large :D

There are quite alot of the benchmarks appearing.. Will have to gather them all up to see if they are consistent.

I ran the same benchmark on max detail and trilinear filtering at 1600x1200 and got an average fps of 59.6.

At 1280x960 I got an average of 90.2 which is pretty near the 6800ultra in those benchmarks.

God knows why they used 1280x960 instead of 1280x1024. Who uses 1280x960? It doesn't fit the screen properly.

Where does one get their hands on it?

You need to download counterstrike source through steam.

You need either a condition zero cd key or an ati Half Life 2 voucher to be able to download it.

Condition zero is only 25 euro and you can pay for it through steam with a credit card. You will be able to download both condition zero and cs-source straight away then.

1280x1024 is a non standard resolution in that it's not in a an aspect ratio of 4:3 like 640x480 800x600 1024x768. 1280x960 is at the normal aspect 4:3 ratio.

Unless you have a monitor specifically geared towards 1280x1024 ( some tft screens ) then you should stick with 1280x960 or circles can look oval and objects squashed in some games.

Hmmm my monitor is weird then. It doesn't display 1280x960 correctly but it does display 1600x1200, 1280x1024 and 800x600 correctly.

I afto agree with BloodBath I've tried this on 2 monitors and 1280*1024 is better - weird indeed

Prolly looks better as its a slightly higher res...
It always was a mystery to me why TFTs used a 5:4 Resolution. Its not just some, I dont think I have ever seen a 1280x960res TFT?

    Gamers Depot:

    http://www.gamers-depot.com/hardware/video_cards/source/002.htm

Much closer scores and the 6800GT consistantly beats the X800 Pro. The X800XT is still of course the fastest, with the 6800 Ultra around 12% behind it.

They look a little fairer. :) Seen any benchmarks involving the 9800pros and source? Want to see how my little machine will hack it....

Those benchies look a bit off to me considering i get 125fps average with css at 1600x1200 with everthing thats allowed at the highest detail.Didnt try with aa or af yet, will do later.Specs are in my sig.

It's not that it looks better. 1280x960 doesn't fit the screen properly. It's off centre where as all the other 5:4 resolutions fit it perfectly and 1280x1024 fits it perfectly.

Also that benchmark isn't exactly fair as the gt they tested came pre-overclocked. They compared it to the x800pro which would have beaten it f it had been overclocked.

Combatcow i'm sure the fact that you have a 3800+ has something to do with you scoring higher.

That's roughly 35fps more than the games depot benchmark, right!? Could that be the A64....

I was running it last night on my machine.. Was getting average frame rates of 70 odd with 2X aa and 8X af at 1280x1024. Just alowed a fair bit when I entered the temple.

Thats odd such a large gap but i remember ATI being well pissed about the whole voucher thing , is this their reward?

But 120+ on highest settings , i think we all sleep safe knowing most pcs will run the game.
