Delayed rail passengers entitled to refunds

    Wednesday, 18th August, 2004

Rail passengers who experienced disruption and delay between Dublin and Galway last Friday are entitled to full refunds from Iarnród Éireann.

Others who experienced delays on the troubled route last week are not being offered compensation.

Customers travelling on the 2.40 p.m. train on Friday from Dublin had to endure three unscheduled stops due to engine failure before completing the last 30 miles of the journey by bus.

It was the fifth train in four days to be delayed during what was described as a bad week on the route.

A lightning strike knocked out control equipment leading to delays on three trains on Tuesday of last week, while passengers endured an 80-minute delay due to an unrelated mechanical fault on Wednesday.
