Raid 0, worth it?

I am hoping to upgrade from my current squealing HDD (as a present for passing the LC :D) and I was think about buying two HDD's and Raid 0 them.

But when I thought about it I don't know if I needed a raid setup. I mainly use the pc for games, play music, internet and the odd dvd and rarely I encode a divx. These are not exactly HDD intensive applications, will I notice anything other than faster windows boot and fast game loading?

OT: Does anyone know where there selling Fortron PSU. Komplett are out of stock.

I asked about this a little while ago and the general consensus was NO but i'll let those with RAID0 argue the benefits....

This is bad fiscal avice but tis only an extra 20. Why not!?

I have mixed feelings about it. I like the way windows loads up in a few seconds, game loading is very fast, and generally i notice a bit of a difference for general windows........ so from that point of view i like it.

The main problem is if one drive dies then thats 300gb of info lost, worth the risk?

Fortron PSU's are available here . ... . www.pc-look.com . Them and komplett are the only ones i know who sell them in europe.

PS if you do setup Raid make sure you do it right. There are ALOT of people who dont do it right and thus dont get any performance increases from it (i made the mistake aswell lol even though i knew what i was supposed to do). Great guide here......... http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?threadid=37734

I'm not really worried about information loss. If I do buy them I'll have a spare 120gb hdd to backup everything onto.

    Thanks for the guide. ;)

After a night pf sleep I've decided to just go for 1 80gb Samsung HDD. I was orignialy gonna go for a 160gb for £70 or two 80gb for £48 each (I know that is a £30 difference but I was very tired last night :D)

    Thanks for the advice.

RAID 0 would be of great benefit to you. Spending money on a hard drive and RAID controller to get 5 seconds shaved off windows loading times aint worth it. Loading anything in Far Cry is noticably slower/same than another pc beside me with no raid and half the performance power.

Intel recommend a cluster size of 128K with the i875p chipsets. HD TAch performed much better for me on 16k though

It depends on what you want to do. Since load times are usually a fraction of play time for games then while it's nice it's not essential. For working with anything handling large data sets (graphics/audio etc) it's priceless.
