Installed second hard drive - cant Recognise CD

Heya

Just installed a second HDD on one of my machines here. i have C: set as master and the second hard drive as slave on the one cable going to IDE slot 1. on IDE slot 2 i have the CD rom on its own data cable but i cant get windows 2000 to recognise the CDROM now.

Any1 know a solution?

Do you have the jumpers on the back set right? They should be set to master if its on its own cable.

Does the bios detect the Cd drive?

yeh jumper set to master and cant detect it in bios. wondering if there is an issue with some mobos 2 HDDs and a CD its a K7N2 Delta. Ciaran ur not "C." are ya?

Do you mean "C" as another user? If so, then no.


If you can't detect it in the bios it means the cd isn't getting power/enough power. The IDE isn't in right, the mobo doesn't support (there should be no problem here) or its dead.

test all the hardware - make a matrix like below - you should be able to get one of the combos to work!

Hd1(Master) + Hd2(slave) on Ide cable1 into Ide slot 1 | cdrom(master) on Ide Cable2 into Ide slot 2 (YOUR CURRENT CONFIG)

Hd1(Master) + Hd2(slave) on Ide cable1 into Ide slot 2 | cdrom(master) on Ide Cable2 into Ide slot 1

Hd1(Master) + cdrom(slave) on Ide cable1 into Ide slot 1 | Hd2(master) on Ide Cable2 into Ide slot 2

Hd1(Master) + cdrom(slave) on Ide cable1 into Ide slot 2 | Hd2(master) on Ide Cable2 into Ide slot 1

cdrom(Master) + Hd2(slave) on Ide cable1 into Ide slot 2 | Hd1(master) on Ide Cable1 into Ide slot 1
