Good places for last minute deals?

    Hi folks,

I've taken a week off work in October, with the idea of booking a last-minute holiday and going somewhere warm and sunny. I don't particularly care where I end up :)

Are there any good places to look for last minute deals, on or off line ?
I'm from Dublin, so that will probably narrow the offline choices a bit :)

P.S. Am I crazy for doing this? Has anybody else done something similar?

The main specials come from the Tour Operators which have charter flights and have to sell them as they have paid for them anyway, the problem with October is that the only areas that your pretty much guaranteed the sun is any of the Canary Islands so these will normally book up first in October therefore not really likely to get great specials. You will normally get specials for Spain, Portugal Balerics etc but your not guaranteed the weather so basically I'd work out which is more important to you cost or weather btw avoid the kids mid term break (23rd w/e ) you will pay top dollar no matter where you go !

Check out Turkey or Costa del Sol usually good for the weather.

go onto some of the bigger tour operators websites and sign up for email
notification of specials coming up.. like Budget Travel or Stein Travel

They usually give up to a month ahead so if you see a half decent deal coming
up for october in September, book it there and then.. it might be a little cheaper
in early october but whats a €50 or €60 if you get a deal..

    Thanks folks!

You've been very helpful and gave me lots of ideas :)

I'll keep an eye out for "early" specials, the web sites are great.
I don't mind paying 50-60 euro more to get a first pick, as ToxicPaddy said :)
