I'm about to rebuild my machine as it's clogged and is running chuggy. I'm also about to install Doom 3 so I want my machine with clean. My question is should I download any other updates than those listed below. Previously I had been hit by a few viruses (the one that keeps rebooting your pc - nasty). Anyway my spec is:

    Win XP pro
    512MB DDR 2700 RAM
    9700pro
    P4 2.4

I've queued the following to download tonight:
Windows SP2 (will this install all security updates needed)?
Lastest ATI graphics and control panal driver released 16th August (version 6.14.10.5117)

Is there any other software I should download? I also have firewall software (outpost) and Norton Antivirus software (with latest updates).

    Thanks in advance.

windows xp sp2 will install all the security updates you need from microsoft.

Probably your best bet is to download a program called nlite. Look it up on the net. It allows you to "slipstream" or merge your copy of sp2 with your windows xp cd. It will create a new bootable iso that you can burn back as a cd. Then you can install windows and have all your updates already there. Much simpler. Can also automate your installation and strip out un-needed stuff.

Akula thanks for the reply. Tbh I always use norton Ghost so my plan is rebuild Win XP pro (I already have a raw image of XP Pro - no drivers). I'll rebuild with XP Pro & SP2 and take an image.
