i've been itching to get a real proper electric guitar for ages (epiphone explorer was such a impulse buy 4 years ago) anyways i'm much more experienced now both in playing ability and in style of guitar.

i just love the overall shape and colour of this LP here

would this be a good guitar?

money is fairly tight but i can afford the 1400 price mark

The Jimmy Page one? Go for it, brother! ;)

Dunno if your link is as trustworthy as you want.

Check out Chris Guitars - got this Goldtop for $1299.

Sweet guitar and Chris is a dead on bloke. My mate bought an Iced Tea burst LP from him a few months ago, absolutely perfect condition, got it for €1400 total. So much better value than buying new in Europe.

That black LP on the right hand side in the special offers half way down the page. NICE!

A studio for a grand or a classic for 1200? No contest man, go for the classic. The quality of the Studio's varies greatly.

tbh black doesn't cut it for me on les pauls don't look right. (but will do to anyone else i presume)

i don't like the fact of buying a second hand guitar from chriss' guitars (he does have bargins but i'd rather this guitar to be mine from the very start)

also there the question of import tax from the states, which can be avoided if i order from within europe.

doctorJ you know of anywhere else in europe that would sell LP classics for the same price as www.guitar24.de ?

could i go into waltons and say here this is the guitar i want, if you get it for that price i'll buy it off you otherwise i'll buy online. are they likely to say yeh or nay?

    Lol!

They'll tell you to fuck right off.
Try Musicstore and Thomann, any of the online stores you can find.

Regarding import tax from the US, with the current exchange rates, with delivery and import duty, tax etc., you'll get the guitar for a straight 1-1...$1400 guitar will cost you €1400. Roughly.

A lot better than buying here...

    thought so.

tried thomann and music store koln but they either don't have it or are ridiculously over priced.

Man, I think you're mad to buy new at that price.

well you wanna sell the one you bought? hehe

my dad's putting so much towards it as birthday present

i've changed my mind again since coming into some extra cash (:D) i've decided on this one here

only difference i can see is colour and this is my fav colour out of all the ones listed on the www.Gibson.com web site.

you's probably think i'm mad spending that sort of money but maybe i am.

can we just keep it focused on the quality of the guitar and not the price factor?

    cheers everyone for your help.

    Neil

Regarding import duties and VAT for getting guitars from the US.
It will cost you an extra 21% VAT plus 3.7% for an electric guitar (3.2% for an acoustic), and they might charge you on the postage rate too,( if they feel like it. )
I phoned Customs and Excise a few weeks ago about this, and that is exactly what i was told

just one quick question, are the pickguards removeable as the guitar looks sweet without it (seen some random pic of LP without it) if not they still like sweet with it on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 698 ✭✭✭Zoton

Yup, removable, but you'll be left with screwholes

    ...ahem

Quick question: What was wrong with the Explorer? I'm looking to get one myself and I'd like to know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

there's nothing wrong with it at all in fact it was hardly used i loved the shape of it and went out a bought straight away. then i kinda grew out of it's shape and prefer the look of the LP.

This is true, I've 83' LP Custom. It weights a TON. It has tone by the barrel full. I was in Walton the other day a played a new LP Custom and the quality of build was disgraceful compared to the older ones. Must be why the Custom models are being built by the custom shop now.

The older les pauls are ace man. Your better doing some shopping on ebay or some other places. Buy 2nd hand you won't be dissapointed trust me...
