    I recently re-installed windows 98se(im not sure if thats causing the problem) but since then ive not been able to record dv footage from my camera. I can playback the footage on Adobe, ulead etc.. but when i go to record it it wont allow me to.

    Does anyone know what might be wrong?

    What software are you using to capture the footage? What error message does it give?

    I presume you are using a PCI firewire card. Does it need a driver re-installed? Check Windows Device Manager (I think in 98 you right click the 'My Computer icon' and select Hardware/Device tab) and see that the firewire card is recognised and functioning properly.

    yeah...using firewire card

    using ulead video studio 6

    and

    adobe premier 6

    says firewire card is working properly,

    on premier now it is just actually saying dv device is unavailable for device control
    and on the settings tab beside the capture device is says "unable to connect to capture device"

    What OS were you using before, and did the camera work OK then? Check that DMA is activated on your hard-drive(s) as if the transfer rate is too slow capture won't start.

    What are the specs of the PC, I'd suggest installing Windows 2000, it runs fie on my Celeron 333. Other then that, get the updated drivers for the firewire card, lathough I'd say you'll find it hard to find windows 98 drivers, that's what I found anyway.
