Looking for a PC to run as a backup machine and server for development for home use (Web, DB etc.)

I have seen the name 'AOpen' a few times and seems they can do a package for about 300E. (dont care about monitors, keyboards etc. as the whole package will be put in the attic with a wifi card and some remote management software).

Was wondering if anyone had used this 'AOpen' [Details of AOpen XC Cube EZ18-PW/AMD nForce2-GT,FSB333 ,220W ,LAN+USB2+FWire+SATA - Pearl White] machine or if someone could recomend me a cheap alternative.

A good bit of memory, decent disk and good clock speed and the ability to add a card for the wi-fi is all I'm looking for...

My company has a few dealings with AOpen PC's, or Acers as there known. Reliability is a bit on the suspect side, with about every 1 in 15 with a HD (usually Maxtor) failure, and about 1 in 20 with some kind of main board problem.

The PC's we get are more of bog standard spec rather than anything special, but I know i'd choose a Dell for office reliability if I had the choice.

*coughs loudly in IT managers direction*

    Is this it?

Seems a shame to pay the extra money for a SFF PC that looks great; to then stick it in the attic.

Dell is an extra 200 euros...The attic could do with some

Delly...is that long for 'Dell' :-)

Nah, its just my version of Dereck, most of the time Del or Dell are gone when signing up to something like boards

Aopen or Acer pc's are utter crap. Spend a little extra and get a system that wont break your heart.

I think I will go with the following:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=301141&cks=FRO

For 290 Euros inc VAT with 20 for delivery...I then need to buy an OS. I think you can get Mandrake 10 CD only for 50...so for 350 I'm in business (I'll swap the CD for bigger harddisk)

The Dell comparison (would not deliver without CD or OS) so after some chat they quoted for a 440 euros.

In my book thats 25% saving and I think the AMD runs Linux faster than P4.

Need help removing the final doubts...
