I'm planning a trip to Stockholm in mid-September.
    Flying into Stockholm-Skavsta with Ryanair.

Flights are working out pretty cheap, but I'm wondering about the cost of enjoying yourself over there!
    Anybody got experiences to share?
I presume we can get a hostel room somewhere for around 20-30 Euro a night.
But how much does it cost for food & beer are we talking much more than Ireland?

Also any idea what the weather will be like at that time, mid-september?

Depends on where in Ireland you're comparing it to...

I'm heading over in a week, I'll post back with updates when I get back. Last time I was over was early last year, struck me as not much more expensive than Dublin to be honest, but I have mates over there so accomodation was always free.

Yeh I'm comparing to Dublin prices.
I heard drink is even more expensive than Dublin, like twice as much which is pretty bad! I think if its as expensive as Dublin its pretty bad because when you live here, you get to know where's cheap and where to stay away from.
Think we might just go to Prague on the cheap!

I lived over there for a while. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

It's about the same as dublin.
45K a pint (€4.50). A night out in Sweden will be, after everything, the same as a night out in Dublin, but it'll be way better. Taxis are expensive though. Tunnelbann (underground) runs very late - so that might be an option. Don't fall asleep on it though, there tends to be pick pockets very late at night.

    Enjoy.

Sweden...................*dreams away* Just got back from my 3rd trip there this year, last week. As the others have said, drinking out is about the same over there as it is here but it varies from place to place. Anytime I've been, I've done the usual, stock up on booze and get pissed before going out anywhere. You have to try out the different flavours of cider. Its the one thing I really miss about that place. Have a great time(you lucky b*stard) and if you get a chance, theres a cute aquarium and theme park worth seeing. That is, if you are a kid at heart.

If it helps, I stayed in a very nice hostel called City Backpackers. Located right in the middle of the city, about five minutes walk from where the Ryanair bus arrives/departs. Very clean, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Looks like it's about 25 euro a night or so.

Arrived back today, very tender after 5 days drinking but enjoyed myself nonetheless.

Drink was about 45-50K most places we went, pub grub was excellent and around the 90K mark.

If you are going to stock up on booze before heading to a bar, bear in mind that off licenses have sh*t opening hours, and you will need to have ID with you. I *think* you have to be 20 to buy in an offy, but 18 in a bar. Don't ask me why. The beer on sale in supermarkets is only around 3.5%, whereas the offy beer is 5.5%.

Weather was lovely when I was there (both Gothenburg and Stockholm), and the place was full of fine ladies! Everyone looks sooooo healthy as well, put us paddies to shame.

Oh, rate of exchange was €1 = 8.9 Kroner.

    Enjoy.

Poor you having to come back here. Im already planning my next Swedish adventure.

Oh yeh, if you're out on the tear some night, you have to make sure you stop off and get a Kebab pizza somewhere. They are the best drunken/hangover food in the world.......

I'd love to go - did everyone decide to go out of the blue or had pre-existing reasons to visit? Seems like a place most people would go to visit friends rather than just up and go for a weekend. I did spend a day in Sweden as a youngster, taking the ferry over from Copenhagen to Helsingburg (?) - it looked so beautiful :)

Noooooo, get a tunnbrulle (spelling?), the wrap with sausage, mash, lettuce and some sauces. Sounds disgusting, but goes down a treat.

It was a spur of the moment thing for me, kind of. Radiohead played a gig there and that was my main reason for going.

I hope to be visiting Sweden too later this year, what's the situation with Ryanair flights. From what I can tell, there are no direct flights to Stockholm so I'm assuming that you'll have to go to London Stansted first? Would there be any foreseeable problems in booking two flights to get to your destination? Excuse the newbieness, Ryanair virgin here :D

You can fly direct with SAS.

And it only costs loads to fly with SAS ;) Plus, they are **** merchants(but I still fly with them) 3 times out of 5 SAS fecked up with my flights and I ended up all stressed out and VERY VERY late for dinner :D Luckily, Im a lovely smiling girl and I just fall into Lulea airport demanding a long drink and junk food.

Oh and IONAPAUL I go there to see friends. I was going out with a Swedish guy for awhile but we are still close and I get on with his friends too. I spend all my holidays with those insane guys.

10 times I've flown SAS, and the only problem I've had was a cancelled flight Dub-Stockholm and I had to fly through Copenhagen. Other than that they've been perfect.

Came home from Stockholm about 4 years ago through Copenhagen, we were delayed due to high winds at Copenhagen and I was convinced I'd miss my connecting flight. Landed with 10 minutes to spare, but they parked right beside the Dublin-bound flight and even managed to get my bags onto the second plane.

Oh, forgot the sexy hosties... ;)

Haha, maybe I've just got a black cloud floating over my head. They cancelled a flight to Stockholm on me too and pushed me through Copenhagen. You never know, we may have been on the same flight. Dumdumdum. Sexy air hostesses? I find a lot of them to be a lot older. A bit like your mom and dad serving you which gives it a nice feel in my opinion.

    :D

My Swedish mate refers to the airline as Jurassic Park because of that...

My experience has been they shove the more mature members of staff up front to look after the suits, and give us punters in the cheap seats the nubile lovelies...

Its a great trip, but it will cost you.

I flew into Gothenborg through Copenhagen and home from Stockholm (direct), but I got a nice deal through a contact. Expect to pay about €400 for those flights.

The train from Gothenborg to Stockholm cost me €125 one-way. Thats what they call the fast train (x2000) and it takes 3 hours as opposed to 5 on the ordinary train (costs about €55 one-way)

You have to try and catch either a hockey match, or a bandy (spelling?) match, like a cross between ice hockey and hurling.
