    hi
i just got a samsung mini dv SDC103 from the states.
didnt bother getting a memory stick yet and just got some tapes
i now want to transfer the footage to my pc so i can burn it to dvd but i'm having problems...
i'm using samsung dvd media 5.1 (is this any good? any better prog's?)
and i can use the usb streaming to stream live video and also watch the video i have recorded (however, with no sound) but i cannot actually transfer the footage to the pc
is there a way to just send the film straight over to the pc without a memory card??
also, that program gives me the option to record the film as i'm watching it (but it is only streaming quality) but it does not record the sound..can i get sound on this?
should i use a different program for all of this?
    any help is greately appreciated
    cheers

Have you tried using Windows Movie Maker? Or iMovie if you are on a Mac?

I recomend moving to firewire if you want the full use of the camera. You can get a card for as low as €20 from No Waffle Computers.ie.

yeah thanks, im actually just after checking out the windows movie maker.it seems better for recording stuff straight from the camera, however i still need the normal microfone for sound as it wont record sound from the camera.
it also doesnt seem to be able to transfer recorded film from the camera to the pc.
anyone know how i can do this?

    cheers

that sound problem is probably due to the fact that the camera is from the states and is probably ntsc (american format). we use pal over here. i could be wrong now and it could be a setting thats not right but i think it is a compatability issue. try using a different camera with your tape. this will rule out the camera. if the problem persists then use a different camera with a different tape, bought in ireland. if that works then it is an ntsc thing
