Im thinking of getting a set of speakers with more than the usual 2 speakers to take advantage of my mobo's 7.1 support, I have a few questions though.

    1) Will my mobo (EPoX 8KDA3J) give me hardware 3d sound, or do I need a sound card for that? If not, what benefit would I get from the 7.1 support?

    2) How exactly are you supposed to place 5+ speakers around your desk?

    3) Are there any brands I should avoid, Im hoping to get a decent set of 5+ speakers for under 100 euro if possible.

    Thanks in advance.

For under €100 I think you would be better off getting a very good set of 2.1 speakers. I have a good set of 5.1 and they sound great but they are not worth the money for running on a pc. No pc game has impressed me with its use of 5.1 (not even doom3).

BTW, this is how you set up 7.1:
