Hi, I'm looking to buy a new PC and I don't really know what to look for. I have basic requirements and I can find lots of manufacturers that offer these, but I don't know who's the best. Any advice would be appreciated.
I only want the computer for music, pictures and films.
    Also, are Dell any good?

the standard reply from users on this forum would be to build it yourself! Post your requirements and you'll get some feedback on what you should get. Also have a look at COL_LOKIS thread in tweaking and modding http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=152842

Ok, I followed that link and tbh, it didn't make much sense to me.
I don't know much about computers  but I want 160GB HD, 512-1024MB RAM, CD + DVD Burner(preferably two drives), good sound card and 6 USB 2 ports. Basically I want a fast computer that can have a few performance sapping app's running at the same time. I have a 300GB external HD on the way so memory isn't too much of an issue.
This is probably a stupid question but when you say "build it yourself", do you mean physically build it or have it built for you?

Yea generally people advise to build your own , its great as you can upgrade so easily, you know alot more about your PC , ohh and its cheaper. www.jes-computer.de have a range of smashing PC's for a pretty decent price that are pre-built (but they will add on whatever you like, ie extra Ram).

Generally dell arent liked around here, but there ok if you want a really cheap option with a flatscreen .

Will you be doing much gaming? What sort of budget do you have?

"Will you be doing much gaming? What sort of budget do you have?"

No, the only gaming I'll be doing is Solitaire! It's mainly for music that I want it. I'll also need it for the basics like Word and Photoshop etc.
My budget is €1,400 but I'd be more comfortable sticking around €1,200. I'm not too bothered with flatscreens or LCDs as long as there's good picture quality. I'd prefer to spend more on the speed and memory and have a CRT monitor.
I was getting a deal from DELL for a Dimension 4600, 160GB, 1024MB RAM, 15" TFT, Pentium 4 3.0GHZ, 48X DVD/CDRW Combo Drive, Creative Labs Sound Blaster® Audigy 2 (Dell), PCI w/Dolby Digital 5.1 sound card. And a printer; €1,250. Is this a good deal?
