Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 mini review

    Right, a mini review:

    The good:
    1. It's like Commandos but with far greater levels of control. You can either do RTS style mouse clicking or take control of a unit and drive/walk it around using the keyboard (while still viewing it from above).

    2. Excellent damage models mean that you can shoot people's hats off, disable tanks by firing high explosive shells onto their tracks or take out a tank with a well timed shell into the engine. Vehicles don't have health bars as such, so you have to consider where their exact weaknesses are and exploit that.

    3. Co-op Multiplay is really good. You can play any single player mission as a team, and you can give your team mate some of your units and vice versa as you see fit.

    4. Fun missions with smashy smashy environment means you can blow up entire buildings wall by wall. Like flashpoint, there are campaigns and once off missions.

    5. The AI is pretty good, though the infantry would be well advised not to charge at tanks.

    The Bad:

    1. God awful music. It's repetitive, and uninteresting at the best of times. I switched it off immediately.

    2. Very little tactical depth. Codename Panzers gives you a much better feel of how to use squadrons of mixed APCs, tanks and artillery to maximum effect.

    3. Not nearly enough tank based missions. They are the most fun, why aren't there more of them?

    4. No fog of war means that it recon doesn't play any part in battles... again codename panzers demonstrates how this should be done.

    So there you go. Has anyone played it? What did people think of it?

    Go to the Strategy board and you will find other people taking about this game. Have played it and like it have all but 2 missions finished.
