I looking to get a digital camera for my sister as a present for her 6 month trip around the world. Not looking for anything too fancy. at least 2.1mpixels and a 3x optical zoom. she's not exatly the most techno savvy lass, so the less complicated the better. able to survive the rigors of life in a rucksack is a must as well.
    Any suggestions?

right. seems i need to get the ball rolling...
am thinking of getting the Nikon CoolPix 2200. cant find any reviews but there are a few of the 3200 which is the sme camera but its 3.1mp instead of 2.1mp for the 2200. its predecessor the 2100 got good reviews.

thinking of buying it from here: http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/40313/art/nikon/coolpix-2200-including-ch.html for €177 inc vat and it comes with rechargable batteries and charger and a 128mb sd crad.

    opinions?

I like the Minolta D'Image ones and was thinking of getting one myself - they have them on that site too...

I reckon the Coolpix 2200 is a good choice, especially with the included extras - the charger+batteries+mem card would probably cost over €50 to buy seperately.

A friend of mine has the coolpix 3100 - it takes superb photos and is very to use. It's also compact and light, and seems sturdy enough. It has a built in lens cover too.
I presume the 2200 is similar enough, apart from the obvious resolution difference.
