So my mates girlfriend has moved in (temporarily) recently. No problems. Shes great craic. I'm delighted for them both, but....

Now there is no hot water left in the morning! Evidently the water tank is limited in size.

Any ideas on how to suggest that either someone (ie: not me) gets up 2 hours earlier; has a shower the night before; or goes without., without making her feel uncomfortable - because frankly she's very welcome?

Why not just set the timer on the immersion for about 6am or so and have it set to bath? That way you should have enough hot water. Either that or get up earlier than them...

Or suggest they shower together ;)

constantly, intentionally, 'accidentally' spill food, drinks etc on her every night. just pretend you are incredibly clumsy. She'll have to take a shower and hence wont need to in the morning.....

Well, the tank fills to "full" so switching to bath won't make a difference.
If they shower together, they'll probably use the same amount of water as two indivudal showers (taught about that one)

...and as for me getting up earlier - it's about the only thing I can think of - but I really, really don't want to have to do then. (Besides - I shouldn't have to!)

Who showers at night? I was suggesting that she could.
There are electric showers downstairs, but I pay for an en-suite.

Yeah, I have friends that do that! I couldn't go to work in the morning if I didn't have a shower, even when I have one the night previous which I normally do. (well after the gym so early evening).

    Back on topic...

You'll have to say something if it bothers you that much. Maybe ask her to rotate, i.e. first into the shower one morning, second next.

Failing that, an electric shower is your only man. Although you mightn't be able to say it to the Landlord if your mate's girlfriend is not supposed to be there.

Either way make sure that you at least say something to your mate otherwise you'll get so p1ssed off that you'll try to find faults elsewhere and you'll end up fighting over stupid things!

    B.

Why not say something along the lines of:

"Guys, there's no hot water left for me in the mornings. Can you show me how to re-set the timer on the boiler"?

Indeed, or just talk to your mate about it.

I've been known to have a shower when I come in from a ngiht out before I hit the hay so the next morning when I wake up I don't feel all stuck to myself.... nice to wake up feeling fresh & not reeking of the night before [this was especially gd before the smoking ban, nothing worse than waking up reeking of cigs - esp since I don't smoke]... & then go take another shower.... yes I realise this is overkill but what the hey, can't be accused of being a filthy bugger....

You could adopt a slightly more selfish/evil approach :)

I spent a few hellish weeks in French college a few years ago. I was fed up with having cold showers in the dorms and didn't want to get up any earlier than I had to.. So one day I discovered the switch for the shower pumps..

Some of my friends never did figure out why there was always hot, pressurised water when I got up in the mornings..

    Oh for the love of....

Asking someone to use a bit less water in the shower is hardly that big a deal, is it?

if the two of them just took a 5 minute shower each (all anyone actuallly needs) i dont see how the tank could be empty after that.....any more than a 5min shower is luxury.

Methinks you're gonna have to get all Norman Bates on her. That should learn her.
