Dublin metro

The only thing that would really solve all the traffic problems would be a metro - by which I mean an underground railway of the kind used in most sizeable European cities.

I reckon a shamrock-shaped metro, looping south along the coast and back, west to the foot of the mountains and back, and north along the coast and back, would serve Dublin perfectly as a basic shape. The loops could intersect at places like Clondalkin - draw it on the map and you'll see what I mean.

It would be expensive; but I wonder if it would be any more expensive than the constant fecky-around roadmending and patching and QBCing workarounds we're currently doing.

Have a look at the thread "[Article] Dublin Interconnector" for some discussions of the current competing plans for dublin's commuter rail services.
