Harley Benton 7 string Review

I finally bought the seven string I've wanted for ages. And now it's time for the review (in a Harmony Central style) :)

    Purchased from:
    Thoman, Germany

    Features: 6
    Dual humbuckers
    Licensed Floyd Rose
    Solid Alder body
    Maple neck
    Rosewood fretboard
    24 frets
    Dot inlays
    Vol, tone, 3 way switch

    Sound: 6
I ran this through a Modded Dunlop cry baby, modded ds-1 into a Harley Benton 80W amp. The clean sound is actually gorgeous. Acousticly, the guitar is loud but it shimmers with some chorus on. With distortion, it can get a bit muddy, especially the low B.

    Action, Fit, & Finish: 5
Set up quite well. No buzzing frets at all. However, some of the routing on the body was quite quite dodgy. And there's a piece of died plywood between the fretboard and the locking nut.

The finish on the body however is flawless.

    Reliability/Durability: N/A
    Hasn't broken yet :)

    Customer Support: N/A
    No need for it. Yet

    Overall Rating: 8
Considering the price and the shape of the neck, it's a fine guitar. Great way of being introduced to the world of 7 strings. Some cosmetic issues (like the plywood) but I can over look those.

And so ends my 2000th post :D

What's with the agro about the 7 string? I wanted a new instrument and I fancied something different. It lets me play slightly lower than before and it's a far more comfier guitar to play than my LTD due to the wider neck.

What's your problem with me spending my money on something I wanted?

Congrats Feylya. Glad you're happy with what you got. Have you found it tricky at all adjusting to the wider neck?
Have you tried dropped A tuning yet? :D

Sounds good. I thought Citizen Erased was on a six-string though. The tab I got was all for six-string.

Cheers. Actually the neck is incredibly comfy and easy to adapt to. Yup, tried Drop A. Invisible Kid and Citizen Erased are both in Drop A. Chunky :D

It Wasn't Me: Citizen Erased can be played on a six string by tuning the low E to A. On a 7 string, it's easier to detune the B string to A (keeps better tension) and you can go straight from Citizen Erased into a song in normal 6 string tuning :)

I was wondering what the deal with the attack was all about alright. Don't worry about it.

    It is nice :)

    That is more convenient!
    *goes off to consider seven-string*

For ?166 + ?23 postage, it really is a viable thing. IMO, you could flog it over here for ?200 without much hassle.
