I am looking at building a small form factor machine - and it will have a 200W power supply. I intend running 2 hard drives, a dvd burner and it will have an Intel P4 CPU.

I want to find out what is the best graphics card I can stick in that box without it going on fire. I know the FX6800 is not an option as it requires a minimum of 350w :(

Personally I would like to go for nvidia, but the power requirements for the various cards doesnt seem to be important enough to list in the tech specs

    any ideas ?

Are higher spec PSU's easily available ?

    ~80W for the P4
    Guessing ~80-90W for the 6800
    ~10W for the mobo
    2x 10w for the hdds (2x 15W for Raptors I think)
    ~7W for DVDRW
~5W budget for various other bits of tech (ram etc.)

    That brings it to....

    Under 250W

You can get a shuttle case and a shuttle 250W pus handily enough.

That's based on the gpu not being insane.

The 350W recommendation is to cover nVidia's arse w.r.t. "enthusiasts" who have 5-drive raid arrays hanging off their dual cpu system pushing 40 fans and an arc-light illuminating their acrylic case.

The 200W power supplies in Shuttle machines (for instance) aren't the same as regular 200W power supplies. They're more powerful.

I wouldn't have been able to run a 3.06Ghz HT P4 and 9800Pro in a regular 200W power supply system, but it was grand in my Shuttle (not a bother).
