Just after coming back from Bangkok, on Monday. We stayed in the Conrad Hilton (Very,Very Plush) and a good central location we booked an extra night because our flight home was in the early morning and it cost $129 plus 10% service charge there is good quality hotels available cheaper in the area. Conrad is very cental to all the activities in Bangkok and taxi's (make sure there metered) are very cheap. O Reillys Irish pub is a good spot and the Irish Exchange in the middle of all the markets and the Bangkok night spots.

P.S. Tell them your on honeymoon and they'll upgrade your room.

I can recommend the Viengtai, which is very close to the main backpackers area, the Khosan road - which means central to most people (very close to the Grand Palace for example)

If you book 3 days in advance thru the Khosanroad.com site you get a decent discount to ~1200 Baht per double room per night - this is approx 24 Eur.
Its the nicest place in the area, has Air Con and swimming pool.

Be sure to ask for a room at the back tho, as the rooms at the front can get a bit of street noise.

I guess it also depends on if you want to stay in a posh hotel for cheaper prices than you would here or prefer something more typical Thai.

The River View Guest House looks pretty good.

Private baths, superb river view and central location near Chinatown.
An air-conditioned double with private bath at about 12euro a night.

This seems to be a pretty good site for reviews and on-line booking.

Definately "The Conrad" even though the Bangkok hilton is cheaper and I'm sure your fellow guests would be very friendly too  plus I'm sure not too hard to get a booking. :D
