    (newbie alert!!!!!!!!)
    i've downloaded a driver from Linuxant.com

but its charging 14.99 to upgrade it from 14.4 - 56 kbps

i think they had beta versions of the 56k modem driver!

i've googled it, but every link seems to point to the new pay driver

also the soundcard on my MB wont work... its an ASUS something or other and has a SoundMax sound card.... it'll play some sound files, but wont play CDs!!!

    help!?

(i want to use linux... i really do)

when you say it won't play CDs, do you mean that you put a CD in the drive, the CD player pops up and you hear nothing. I have a similar problem with my comp. not really a solution but i found that installing xine or mplayer will play CDs grand.

can't help with the driver issue though, but you could look at it this way, how much would a linux-compliant modem cost you? less than 14.99?
