have been waiting for O2 to launch info on their site all day to link to but so far they have just stuck up a press release, which outlines pricing etc.:
O2 Ireland announce 'music over mobile' service in Ireland

tracks can be downloaded to the device over the air with a compatible handset (one that can initiate a GPRS session via Infrared) and you are charged per track purchased (rather than per KB!) It takes standard SD cards, so you can expand the storage capacity of the device.

at a demo earlier in the year they showed how you can preview a sample of the track before purchase. downloaded tracks are in aacPlus format and they explained how you could 'backup' these to your PC for safe keeping and playback on the PC. you could also transfer music from the PC to the device and in MP3, aac and aacPlus formats

here is the PDF Manual from the O2 UK site if anyone wants more in-depth info

it's the same device as they launched late last year in the UK, this thread has more info and details on their service

Its a nice idea but how practical in these days of 10,000 song ipods? Is there any idea how much each track will cost (1.50 in the UK, = 2.20 euro?) and how long it will take to download?

could this be another XDA? i.e. something they thought they would sell 100,000s of and it ended up having only a relativly small market?

    according to the press release:
The O2 digital music player has a RRP of EUR299 and tracks cost approximately EUR1.50 to download

haven't heard how well it's gone down (or not) in the UK, but it's taken a while to get here
