Anyone know which shops are selling the EOS10D in Dublin - I've only seen it in that place on Dawson street...anywhere else? (for comparison)

I get stuff shipped over from www.bhphotovideo.com you pay about 20% in taxes when it arrives here unless you get a friend to send it over but it still works out cheaper. These guys http://www.cameraexchange.ie/ will also quote you but prepare for the shock of your life.

Company purchase :. require VAT reciept so it has to be an actual bricks and mortar shop in Ireland.

Well if you want more shocking prices:
    http://www.connscameras.com
    http://www.pixels.ie

Then you can buy it in Germany: http://www.ny-camera.com/

Well you have to pay VAT when if it comes in to the country from the US so you will have a VAT reciept if that is a factor.

Go on a weekend to NY, buy it there, the balance saved over the ridicules prices here will pay for some of your trip.

True - but they won't take a bankers draft or company check - and both the revenue commisioners and my wife would rather I didn't get a credit card on the company account ;)

I pay online companies by bankers draft all the time, where is the risk for them, they dont post you the camera untill they draft or cheque clears. The same with a company cheque.

After MUCH research and checking of opinions on dpreview.com, I bought my 300D from ny-camera.de. I got it for a great price, and recieved great service from them. It was actually a company purchase (sole trader), and I entered the VAT number on the site as I checked out. No problems.

I was tempted by B&H, but I've heard reports of people getting stung by customs. Even so, it's STILL cheaper than getting it in town. Which is a shame, as I'd like to support local traders, but can't justify the crazy prices...

I have orderded all my camera equipment from bhphoto..how can you pass up on the prices they offer compared to Ireland, also the strenght of the euro against the dollar, my last ordered was over 3000euro , eos 10d and a couple of lenses, I was luckly enough to get away with the duty, because the value on the box looked like 30dollars instead of 3000dollars...the 10d is going for 1269dollars at the moment...u should probably wait a while, there is talk of a replacement 10d

I would love to by a 10D locally...but its not going to happen. Why do the local shops not get the point that they could increase sales if they stop pricing themselves out of the market. I bought an expensive Digital camera a few years ago and ALL shops in Dublin had it for the same price (to the penny/cent). Its like they all agree the price band or check with each other...wonder if someone has ever looking into this.

too many starry-eyed customers going into shops with blank cheques and credit cards

don't blame the shops. the wholesalers we buy from charge us: €1450 plus VAT

It would be cheaper for us to buy whlesale from retail shops in the USA, crazy!

Canon and the wholesalers set the prices in Ireland, not the retail shops

Champion is the manufacturer. I've only seen it sold in Silverprint [London] and they can't post it. I've just thought maybe they could fex ex it or something.

Merrion, why would you want to pay 1899euro in city cameras dawson street when you can order it from bhphotovideo and get the camera including all customs charges for 1300 at most, leaving you with 600euro to buy a decent lens e.g. canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM ('L' too)...I will never buy again in Ireland unless they drop there prices on par with the us...no brainer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭Merrion

I might wait until the EoS 20D is released as that might lead to a drop in the 10D price...

I bought the 10D in June from the US. It worked out at just over €1,300 after duty & Vat. I bought the lenses from Hong Kong and saved a fortune overall.

Anyway that's not much use if you have to buy here though if you buy from a reputable dealer on EBay within the EU you will do an awful lot better than buying here. Conn's prices are unbelieveable.

The 20D was oficially announced yesterday. Have a look here for a full 10 page preview.

I think I'll sell mine and get it. I'll do a good deal :D

    Valentia

PS I notice that the prices quoted have the Euro price higher than the dollar price for both lenses and camera

With the Euro @ around $1.24 that is madness.

Buy from the states. Most dealers will sort the VAT and take a bank draft in dollars. Imagine the fun you'll have picking a lens or 550EX with the change.
